Counter-Strike: Bootman & weenus Breakdown the Brackets

By: Bobby Hicks - Published December 15, 2005 at 6:40 PM EST - Writer Archive
Bootman and Weenus put in some serious thought and humor into breaking down the brackets of this winters CPL. Check inside for unique looks of the 4 main pathways on the road to the semifinals. How do Bootman and Weenus rank your team?

Winter CPL is getting off to a slow start, with many great teams meeting up as early as the third round on the controversial de_cbble. One of the biggest issues with de_cbble is how strongly defensive sided the map is. A while ago, de_cbble was removed from CPL play, much like de_prodigy, and de_aztec, as each of the maps were so heavily weighted towards defensive team that it was considered unfit for competitive play. The map returned at the CPL Summer 1.6 event. Many of the players attending this event are working frantically on last minute preparations for a map most of them have been ignoring for the past six months. The third round of the Upper bracket could prove to be very interesting. Today, I'm going to be breaking down the Upper brackets into four separate branches.

The official CPL bracket can be found here.

Bootman's CS For Dummies Thoughts:

As mentioned above, de_cbble is very favored for the defense. Basically if you start out on defense and don't get more than ten rounds, you're a chump. This map is favored heavily to the defense due to the lack of viable entrances to the bombsites. You have three entrances to bombsite A, one is a very narrow doorway that you can watch pretty much anywhere in spawn, the pit of doom coming up the middle -- all I have to say is fish in a barrel, and the connector between CT Spawn and bombsite B. If you have a good AWPer to hold B and you can set up two in a crossfire at the middle, just dump flashbangs down there and have some fun.
