Counter-Strike: CS: Prefiring with weenus

By: Bobby Hicks - Published December 17, 2005 at 10:56 AM EST - Writer Archive
Weenus is back with his pre-firing once again! This time he tries to tackle and unlock the mystery behind the CPL matches of the day.

The Opinions expressed in this piece do not necessarily reflect those of GotFrag. But we will take all of the credit for any jokes Bobby makes that make you laugh.

Quarter Finals of the Counter-Strike CPL tournament has finally crawled around and I'm confident enough to begin Pre-Firing on the last sixteen teams alive in the brackets. I've officially won a whopping nine dollars off of the GotFrag? editor Shrew, so I think my predicting glands are all fired up. Here at GotFrag.com, we encourage "over age" gambling.

Upper Brackets:

Sweden SK Gaming vs. United States Team 3D
Pre-Fired Winner - Team 3D

You're going to call me biased, or stupid, but I actually thought that NiP was going to take down SK Gaming. Saying that would have been an upset, actually and earned me quite a few flames on the comments, but I still think SK Gaming is going to end up in the Lower bracket sooner than later. Its not that they are bad, because they're not, I just think Team 3D is better. With a close call on de_cbble going into overtime, Team 3D pulled past an overlooked fnatic team with the perseverence they're advertised as having. I'm expecting to see some of that Desire and Dedication from the USA boys. I also have ten dollars riding on it. Daddy needs a new cup of overpriced boiling water (AKA: Latte from the Coffee Shop above the BYOC).

Sweden Begrip Gaming vs. Canada Team EG
Pre-Fired Winner - Begrip Gaming

I'm a reformed EG fan, I won't lie. For the past few months I have seen strong play from my neighbors to the north, and I used to be unreasonably hard on them. However, Begrip is a scary beast traveling through the brackets. We see yet another tournament with Begrip coming in blind, and decimating the opposition. Begrip has lost a total of two rounds so far, against Check6, and sent Rival into their premature demise, and thats a relatively scary thought. EG took down a strong United5 team, and I think EG is going to impress everyone including Begrip. I'm looking at a 16-10 typed deal in Begrip's favor...by the way, what the hell does Begrip mean?

Germany Mousesports vs. South Korea Lunatic-hai
Pre-Fired Winner - Mousesports

Mouz has had a great bracket, the kind that earns you the most amount of money for the least amount of effort. That doesn't take away from these guys being a solid top tier team in the world however. On the other side, Lunatic-hai has turned some heads like most of us expected, but they are going to go down hard against the Germans. I'm pretty sure this is the downward spiral for Lunatic-hai, Mouz sends them to the Lower bracket, and someone else sends them to their hotel rooms to pack.

United States JaX Money Crew vs. United States compLexity
Pre-Fired Winner - compLexity

Both of these teams have had one easier match, and one harder match. JMC squared off with MNM, who took them into overtime after sinking mibr, while compLexity swept over 4Kings who dropkicked Serious Gaming to the Lower bracket. Going into this, I'm sure Alex will come over here and give me hell, and trust me, JMC looks good this event, but compLexity is on the comeback trail, and JMC is only getting in their way. 4Kings has looked better this week than I've seen them in months, and coL giving them the business the way they did gives me the impression that they are going to stomp on JMC's skulls. God, I know somehow saying that is going to come back to me. If JMC wins I bet Da Bears is going to have a boot party on my head.

Lower Bracket:

Finland Serious Gaming vs. Sweden NiP
Prefired Winner - NiP

I personally expected NiP to beat SK Gaming, that was not the case. NiP fell to SK gaming 16-10, which isn't quite a blow out, but could have been better. Serious Gaming has been having trouble over the past couple of days though, and that makes me skeptical about this match. Serious fell hard as hell to 4Kings, and while they seem to be getting momentum down below, NiP has the passion and needs this event much more than Serious does. NiP needs a second chance against SK at some point, on a better map than the defensive weighted de_cbble. Good luck Serious, you'll need it.

Brazil mibr vs. Sweden Fnatic
Prefired Winner - Fnatic

Fnatic looked great against 3D, and at one point Fnatic had the match. I seriously underestimated them coming into Dallas, and they have earned my respect. Brazil got it done dirty to them as far as visas go, but 'thems the breaks'. I just don't think mibr came into this event as the team that they wanted to, and its going to definately show up in the scores of this match. Fnatic still feels the sting of 3D's palm on their collective bumbum, and will be seeing red when the confused clubbing Brazilians join the server.

United States Check Six vs. United States TEC
Prefired Winner - The Elude Clan

TEC has broken the curse. No Da Bears, and no Matt Gilbert, and these guys are going straight for a placing. This is going to be a great match, next to Astralis versus 4Kings, this will be the best Lower bracket match of this set. Its also a continental standoff. Which North American team is capible of sending the other home? TEC is way to determined to lose this one, and Check Six has been charitable enough to donate their computer use for NiP to scrim on instead of using the time themselves, while TEC is self centered greed mongers who have only allowed their computers to be used by TEC and solely TEC. Sorry cbizzle, maybe next time.

Finland Astralis vs. United Kingdom 4Kings
Prefired Winner - 4Kings

Wow. 4Kings looks good. I'm shocked. I honestly never thought I would be impressed with 4Kings. I was totally wrong. Astralis has insane aim, and can't be counted out even in a two versus five, but 4Kings are a wiley gang, and they are a determined bunch. They just seem much more hungry than Astralis for this tournament. I'm expecting 4Kings to make it at least another two matches before they die out in the tournament. This won't be a blow out, it will definately be good, and its the other continental match of the bracket. Watch this one if you want to get pumped up for the rest of the day, it's going to be a pretty sweet wake up match. 4Kings for the win.
