Counter-Strike: 4Kings vs. coL: Did They Change?

By: Chris Boutté - Published December 17, 2005 at 2:53 PM EST - Writer Archive
In bootman's previous article of 4Kings and compLexity he showed the tactics that both of these teams used just a week prior, while playing each other on the same map. In this article we will take a look into whether or not each team decided to change anything to throw their opponent off.

As you should have seen in my previous article, both these teams played about a week ago at the Pre-CPL Lethal Gamers Bootcamp. CoL took the tournament after beating 4Kings on multiple occasions. We were able to get a hold of that demo and get out a preview a few minutes before the match went live, so all of our loyal fans would be able to take a look at what they missed out on last week.

Now that the match is over and compLexity is victorious once again, by a much larger margin. Now it is time to take a look and ask ourselves one question: What did they change? When you are two of the top rated teams in the world, and faced off a week before, you would think that each team had revamped all of their tactics, ESPECIALLY after they played the exact same map such a short time ago. I was on-site, right behind the teams, and I am here to answer that question. After reading this article, you are going to sit back and wonder: Why didn't they switch things up!?

We'll start off with the victor, team compLexity. Their offense looked just a little bit different, but not often.

Warden

New
Old

Although AWPing the back of the site is one of the harder places to change your positioning, it is still very possible. Day is one of the best AWPers out there and they still couldn't take Warden out. They really should have had a backup plan, just in case.

Sunman

New
Old

Sunman played the same spot at the bottom of the ramp more times than I can count. Tossing flashes and nades down there after smoking for warden would have helped.

fRoD

New
Old

I would have suggested the old virtus.pro tactic to stop fRoD from playing this position. It was taking your best AWPer (Day) and have him jump off the offensive right rail land and just sit and wait for fRoD to come out.

Storm/tr1p

New
Old

The same stacks that stopped 4K over and over again worked once again. Tr1p has always said, "It doesn't matter how many times we run a strat, or even if they know we are doing it. We'll run it until it stops working".

Now we'll move onto the more critical part of this article, 4Kings. Let's look and see if it was because of the fact that they changed everything last minute, or the lack of changing everything last minute.
