Counter-Strike: Interview with Walle

By: Brian Johnson - Published December 17, 2005 at 10:24 PM EST - Writer Archive
Prior to the JmC match I had a chance to sit down with Walle and NiP's finely dressed manager (he had a suit!) for a 7 minute interview.

You just beat Begrip 16-4 on mill, how did you feel going in to that map? I know Europeans aren’t traditionally strong on mill but you dominated them.

The thing is we haven’t played mill once with this team. We played it in CPL UK once and lost vs. NoA. The past few months we didn’t practice it; we had a few computers here in the BYOC and didn’t play mill once. We felt kind of like we didn’t know what was going to happen; so we went in and gained some momentum and that’s what we did.

You seemed to have some momentum as begrip couldn’t go anywhere on you guys. I saw that Begrip like to hit bombsite A a lot and you always seemed to be setup in the right spots to combat them. Do you guys traditionaly stack bombsite A? I know you don’t play it a lot but it is a setup for you?

I cant really say obviously we did.

NiP hit Begrip at b a lot more than Begrip attacked NiP's bombsite B. Did Begrip’s lack of ability to hit bombsite a push you to attack their bombsite B?

I don’t know why we attacked their bombsite b; we compare
mill a bit to dust2, you can send many people the same and search it without flashes and try to out aim them. That’s what we did on mill -- just send 4 people and try to out aim them...We also faked the left side on T and went B.

Dust2 is one of NiP’s stronger maps correct?

I think it is. Dust2 is such a map that can go either way; you can lose big as we did to project_kr or you can...I think we usually have a good game on dust2.

You feel very confident coming against JmC on dust2 correct?

We feel confident; we're really surprised they have gotten so far.

I think everyone is surprised they made it so far

How do you feel about an all Swedish final against SK?

That would fun, because we lost versus them on cbble and we'd like to get revenge on them; we're aiming for that final.

Was that your goal coming in here..top 2, making the finals; or was your main goal flat out win?

Usually we always go for top2 top 3...aiming for number 1, but we haven’t practiced for two weeks since we were on a pr tour and since Korea we haven’t played for 2 weeks, so we felt really cold not playing for so long; but we're getting warmed up now. We feel better now.

I heard from serious gaming that at WEG you guys practiced a lot and really refined your strats and really practiced the maps; has that helped you here?

The thing is we have to change so many strats when you're playing good teams; the best thing we got from WEG was team play especially as ct; because you have to change so many strats as T so it doesn’t really matter how long you practice as T; you still have to change it the next time.

Are you more a team that has set strats on a map, or do you adapt to what the other teams give you? I noticed that Begrip tried to force everything against you guys.

I was very surprised at that; I’d say especially on dust2 we can adapt very well; it depends on the map, but I’d have to say we have enough strats to adapt; I don’t think Begrip had them on mill; that’s why they only attacked 1 bombsite

If you beat JmC you're going to face Lunatic Hai in the lower finals. What do you know about Lunatic Hai, and what is your experience with them?

We have no knowledge at all of Lunatic Hai; I know they placed well at ESWC so I’m not going to underestimate them...just look at WEG project_kr came from no where; wNv too, no one thought they would be in the finals. We're not going to underestimate any team

Any final comments or anything like that you would like to say?

I would like to thank soft trading (the sponsors name was difficult to hear feel free to msg me NiP if this is an incorrect sponsor name) for sponsoring us, and I would like to say hello of our fans.
