Counter-Strike: 3D, coL looking to Denmark for shgOpen

A new International event is brewing in Denmark as shgOpen announces its team list and prize breakdown.
Recent announcement by the CPL that the World Tour won’t begin until May leaves a gaping hole in competitive play to start 2006. Teams must resort to other tournaments and one such tournament is shgOpen, taking place February 17th-19th in Fredericia, Denmark. The tournament currently has 82 teams signed up for the 350,000 Danish kroners, DKK, ($56,727 USD) purse prize which has been “guaranteed”.

Right now the major teams signed up for the tournament, which is 29 days away, are: Fnatic, 4Kings, Serious Gaming, and NoA, who all are featured on the Top Ten list for Europe. Still, rumors suggest that both American Powerhouse teams Complexity and Team3D are looking at attending the event due to the nice cash purse. Current prize breakdown sits as follows:

1 100,000 DKK ($16,206 USD)
2 70,000 DKK ($11,344 USD)
3 45,000 DKK ($7,293 USD)
4 30,000 DKK ($4,862 USD)
5 20,000 DKK ($3,241 USD)
6 17,000 DKK ($2,755 USD)
7 12,000 DKK ($1,945 USD)
8 8,000 DKK ($1,296 USD)
9-12 6,000 DKK ($972 USD)
13-16 3,000 DKK ($486 USD)

GotFrag will continue to provide updates on this possible major International event as details are made available. Check out the entire list of teams attending here and find a list of noteworthy International teams from before below.

Sweden fnatic
United Kingdom 4Kings (Independently confirmed not listed on the website)
Finland Serious Gaming
Norway NoA
Germany Alternate aTTax
Denmark Asylum
Iceland seven
Denmark Gamehotel

The remaining 75 teams consist mostly of local Scandinavian teams but because of Fredericia’s location on Jutland, Denmark’s mainland, it could be ideal for getting both more famous Swedish teams and mainland Europeans such as Germany.

Finally the event has also announced a smaller Counter-Strike Source tournament. This will make up the final 10,000 DKK with 5,000 DKK for first place and 3,000 and 2,000 for second and third respectively.
