WEG's first Russian attendee, Virtus.pro, will kick off Group Two play when they face American Complexity. The first Group Two match of WEG Masters is rematch from the ACON5 Finals event in Xi’an, China where Virtus defeated coL on Cbble 16-8 and knocked them down to the lower bracket. Complexity was subsequently eliminated from the tournament by Lunatic-Hai on Nuke 16-11 while Virtus.Pro went on to win the entire tournament and score its only major championship. The last tournament featuring both teams was ESWC 2005. Virtus failed to advance past the second group stage while Complexity dominated the competition. Following their initial loss to Danish Clan-IT in the opening group stage, Complexity’s closest matches in the second group stage were against NiP (16-12) and x6tence (16-12). Complexity went on to win the event with a 10-1 record. Virtus, on the other hand, tied Clan-IT, defeated forZe, 16-6, and lost to SK.dk, 10-16, to finish third in their group. Virtus will be looking to Alexsey “LeX” Kolesnikov, who leads the team in all major statistical categories, to deliver some huge performances. Kolesnikov played a huge game against coL at ACON5 with a DAR (Damage Average per Round) of 104.6 and a FPR (Frags Per Round) 0.928. In addition, the recent replacement of Konstantin "groove" Pikiner, who had the lowest DAR and FPR in Virtus, with Alexey "HEL1" Novikov should improve the team’s fragging ability. How this roster move will affect the team’s strategic ability and chemistry has yet to be seen. Complexity will rely on Danny “fRoD” Montaner to shoulder the scoring load as usual. Montaner currently leads coL in all statistics categories and leads the GameSense player database with 3,455 total frags while posting a 91 DAR, nearly 20 points higher then anyone on his team. Complexity is coming off a victory at the TransAtlantic Finals where they defeated Team 3D and Mousesports. They won both best-of-three matches 2-1 losing Nuke and Cbble respectively. From the results of the TransAtlantic Finals, it appears that the departure and return of Justin “sunman” Summy no longer inhibits complexity. coL’s late arrival to Hangzhou, the 17th of April, and their frenetic travel schedule will not be a factor as Virtus.pro, along with the rest of the teams currently at WEG, only started practicing on Saturday the 15th. Complexity, the favorites to win Group Two, will be closely watched by their competitors while Virtus looks to guarantee a spot in the Semi’s. Notes: This match will feature two of GameSense’s top five players fourth Kolesnikov and fifth Montaner. Novikov will be making his first appearance in GameSense at this event. Summy has a +/- of -37 over the last seven matches Complexity played versus Team 3D, Complexity went 6-1 versus Team 3D. Virtus wins 71% of their defensive rounds while only 44% of their offensive rounds. Copyright 2006 GOTFRAG.COM LLC. All rights reserved.
