Counter-Strike: wNv looks to stay undefeated against 4K

By: Trevor Schmidt - Published April 22, 2006 at 12:08 PM EDT - Writer Archive
China can smell back-to-back WEG Championships. It might not be out of the question with wNv looking to improve to 2-0 following its controversial victory over SK.swe. wNv's foe will be UK based Four Kings on Train, Dust2 and Inferno.
A victory by 4Kings on the other hand could send shock waves through the scene as most expect the team from England to have trouble at this event. A little under two weeks ago 4K's star player and team leader Joona “natu” Leppänen was forced to leave due to personal issues. His departure left the team in chaos. Forced to bring in a new player they tapped local Shanghai product Zhang Chao “LaiXiLaiXi” Xi.

The team's ability to adapt to this new change has been seriously brought into question because of their lack of playing time in the practice room. WEG scheduling also dealt 4K a tough blow with a double-header Sunday. Four Kings will start with Catch-Gamer and finish with the Chinese wNv.

wNv had trouble with SK.swe in their opening map, Nuke, dropping the first half 5-10 and ended up losing 11-16. They rallied, though, behind the suprising play of Ke Fei “Jungle” Yang. Awarded Player of the Night on Friday, he'll look to repeat his 0.868 FPR (Frags Per Round).

Even with all the publicity on Yang, Zhen Wei “44'alex” Bian put up a very good performance placing second among top scorers with a 90.2 DAR (Damage Average per Round). Both Bian and Yang's performances came after the controversial second half of the first map.

During that map, SK.swe ran into ping trouble on Vilden's computer and reported it to the admins. After a pause in the game, both sides got into a huge debate over whether to restart the entire match or just the half. wNv claimed that their computers too where having trouble. Once the situation was resolved following some serious drama the Chinese went on to dominate. So complete was their dominance of the top team in the world that they won 3.5 rounds to ever round lost giving them a 32-9 score in the second two maps.

Wnv will look to take one step closer to locking down a spot in the semifinals with another win. All but an unlikely series of events would stop the Chinese wNv from advancing. 4Kings only hopes to survive what should be a tough double-header against two of the top 15 teams in the world.

Notes

Even with losing one of the maps, four of wNv players were in the top seven for the nights stats including Yang (2), Bian (3), Jiang “Mikk” Pu (5) and Run Bo “Sakula” Wu (7)...Historically 4K's best player is Jonas “Goodfella” Virtanen with a 0.735 FPR...4K's last match against a Chinese team was Abitstrike during WEG season 2 where they defeated them 13-5 on Dust2.

wNv better get all the victories they can before they get haunted by SK in the finals. SK is angry and wide-awake.

how was wnv's victory against SK controversial? the map in question was won by sk. the next 2 maps were won fair and square. anyway, 4k stands no chance unless wnv is stupid enough to underestimate them

#4 agree there is nothing "controversial" about wnv's win. The disputed nuke was won by SK anyway. After dispute eneded, wnv won the next 2 maps. How is that controversial?

#4 exactly my point. This article is just going to feed SK fans or wNv haters with excuses...

wNv's win over SK was NOT controversial, but very convincing.

Regardless of your position over the SK-wNv controversy, just remember SK got the favorable ruling and won the 1st map. wNv shut out SK in the next two maps, without any problems. So by no means was wNv's win over SK yesterday "controversial". Yes, one map was controversial, but yesterday clearly proved that wNv outplayed SK.

Trevor, IMHO to say "controversial victory over SK.swe" is clearly a biased and wrong opinion. Rather, indicate there was controversy in the first match, but don't attribute wNv's legit and convincing "victory" to it. It was far from a "controversial victory".

The only controversy is SK's only win against wNv. Not the other way around.

by controversial , nowone is saying wNv did not 'shut down' SK on two maps. The match was controversial due to everything that happened with the rules, computer changes, demands , post-match interviews, etc.

#13 controversial 'victory' though? looks like a pun to me though your way of explaining can be the 'supposed' explanation. sk fans and wnv haters would look at those words differently.

#14 you are quite bitter and racist. you must be ggz's brother or something.

1. Im not bitter actually
2. That was not racist. That was stereotyping and I wasn't being entirely serious. Merely trying to imitate what has been going down on this site for the last 24 hours.

#13 that may be the case, but doubtful. Even then such an ambigous use of the word would lead many to believe that wNv's victory itself was questionable. I doubt many people read it the other way: "wNv's victory over SK is legit despite early disputes ."

#17 characterizing asian men as "40 pound girls" and swedish men as "real men" is clearly rasicst.

Emasculating asian men is a common racist phenomeon. Watch some TV, see any asian men scoring? Nah, instead you see Rambo blowing up asian guys and taking the viet girl on a helicopter, and oh noes. I wonder what happened next.

17 # all u did was comlain again and agian. did u ever think about why sk asked for a replay?

since they asked first, why could not their opponent?

how could u do under that situation. i am quite sure u would do the same thing as wnv did yesterday. no one could simply accept a claim that goes against his own benefit without thinking through. it is ridiculors

everyone there were just looking for protect their own benefits and dignity.

Jungle had almost .500 domination factor for the last 2 maps, and 2 aces in 1 match (vs SK.swe) thats pretty nuts

wNv has no competition left in their group so theyre makin quite a nice dent in the gamesense
