Bootman takes a look at some of the high impact fragging positions on de_dust2. ![]() This article is completely dedicated to helping players find the best positions on specific maps to optimize their playing ability. If you don't watch many demos or are just getting started playing competitively and feel like your playing style is too basic, this can help you out. De_dust2 Defense AWP ![]() This first spot is great if you have a 1-2 setup in bombsite A with two playing on the catwalk. It gives you a great angle to catch anyone rounding the corner, or jumping into the long A pit. It also gives you quick and easy access to fall back into your spawn and shoot from there as they run across. You can also repeat peeking this corner to give your team a good idea of how close they are getting or whether or not they fell back. Make sure as they near closer and you are prepared to fall back into spawn, you throw a flash and/or an HE grenade to slow them down a bit, because they will most likely smoke this area once they realize you fell back into spawn. I do not suggest playing this pushed up to long A unless you have a colt within a few feet of you. The trip from this point to the actual A bombsite is way too far and wide for you to be able to take a rush down alone. The best way to play pushed up like this is to have a colt sitting in the pit, unseen, prepared to either peek out and crossfire with you, or throw an HE off of the box and then peek. I prefer the flashing method. ![]() This is optimal if you are playing a 2-1 setup with two players at Long A. It gives you a lot of area to work with if multiple opponents take the catwalk route. You are able to move down the A bombsite ramp and delay the enemies with flashes and grenades in the air without being seen. You are also able to move farther to the left and catch the late players crossing passed the ledge. I really like this spot because it catches the enemy off guard. It is a rarely used angle and it gives the enemy a lot less to shoot at when he comes around that corner. Playing from the catwalk ledge works at times. It really depends on how good you are with the AWP, and if you are able to hit only a head as it rounds the corner. The best way to play from the ledge is to have a colt player sitting to your left with a flashbang primed and ready to blind a group of opponents. ![]() This has been deemed "The Cockzilla Spot" by myself and weenus when we first got into competitive Counter-Strike (If you ask midway, he will swear to the gods that he invented this spot. If you ask midway about every other spot in counter-strike, he will also try to convince you that he invented these spots. Gotta love the Schmidt). Playing from here is one of the best angles to date in the game on any map. When you are double zoomed and moved either to the left or the right, it is great spot to catch an unsuspecting offensive player attempting to hide behind the box after spotting for someone on the back of the platform. It also works well for when the opposing team attempts to hug that left wall before taking over the bombsite. ![]() If a team really likes to go heavy to the catwalk, you should really stray from the norm and switch to a 2-2-1 setup (two in the A bombsite, two in this middle headstack, one watching B). This will catch any player on offense throwing grenades down the double doors or even if they are crouching up the catwalk. This works out perfect for the B player, since he has two players to back him up immediately, rather than one. The two players in A should put most of they're focus on long A, until something from the middle is called. When you are a middle player and you have found out that the offense is about to rush the A bombsite, play from here. You want to give the offense as little of you to see, so this angle works out perfectly. After they realize you are there, when you fire your first shot, it is not O.K. to move wider out to the right to get a better angle on them as they cross. Colt ![]() This is pulled off with three people to boost the top player by the double-stacked boxes to the right. You will be able to either catch the offense off guard when they round the corner, or move over to the left to see the lower B hall entrance. ![]() These are a few spots to play with your partner on the catwalk. The first one can be played with an AWP or a colt if you know the offense likes to go to the double-stacked green boxes and pick a lot. Take a few shots from the ground, and then boost up onto the boxes without being seen. The second set is a good crossfire that will give you a good way to watch the catwalk as well as lower B. It isn't really a way to get actual frags, but to alert your team about what you see so they can have a good idea of what to expect. You will also have a very quick rotation over to the B bombsite, and that is a major plus. ![]() When you are playing solo, I really like to switch things up and catch the offense off guard. To do this, go up to the popular entryways that have a box or door that will line up diagonally with the corner of a wall. This will catch your opponent off guard because he will be looking out at a wider angle when he edges out from the entrance. If you are quick and accurate with a colt and you play with two aggressive players at long A, this spot will get a lot of headshots when the offense walks into this corridor. After taking a few shots, yourself and your partner will be able to fall back and do a head stack or a cross-fire. ![]() These are two spots that I believe D!E started using when they received their first top 8 placing a few CPL's ago. They are both achieved by using three people to boost them. For both spots, it is ideal to boost from the left side, so that no players on offense can spot you. It really lets you get the drop on the offense once or twice during the half. ![]() Although you cannot really tell, this is the box in the back of the B bombsite. I suggest this spot mostly for a save round or if you are running out of areas to play in the site. You must turn and only look through the crack to see if the other team has crossed, or your gun will blatantly be sticking out. Page:
