Midway's "The Best" series continues with an examination of Trevor's top 15 Counter-Strike matches of all time. This piece highlights matches 15-11. ![]() 15. DoP vs X3 – (13-11) - CAL Season 3 – February 7th, 2002"The Dawn of Online CS" Coming a little under two months after the CPL World Championships which featured NiP over X3, X3 faced DoP in an online match that many followed. It was the first real test of online Counter-Strike in the USA. With full HLTV and an increasing interest, the two teams really went to battle. The game itself took place on Dust2 as both teams looked amazing. The real importance of the match came from its actual impact on the scene. This was the only online match to make the list and for good reason. This match single handedly setup CAL Invite and in a later stage the entire CAL as a spectator event along with a major source for top online play. Up until this point X3 crushed everyone in sight with only a few close matches but with DoP opening the doors, it created a much more intriguing scene. CAL-I became the place everyone wanted to play. The players themselves were also greatly affected. For the victors, Dave “moto” Geffon led the team along with David “Kane” Cannon, and both left to join the powerhouse west coast team TSO who led the American scene for the next six months. For the losers, X3 soon disbanded leaving some of the best players in the world as free agents. At first it appeared they would each join different teams but then reformed under a new banner, Team 3D (Desire, Discipline and Dedication). |

I can guarantee at least 3D vs. SK @ CPL Winter 2005, NoA vs. EYE @ CPL Winter 2004, NiP vs. X3 [doh] will be on the list.
Looking forward to the rest.
100% with #8
would be great to add rosters and links to demos (altough must of the matches will be 1.5 - 1.3 )
I would suggest putting the map name in the bold title so it would read like this eg: 15. DoP vs X3 – (13-11) [dust2] - CAL Season 3 – February 7th, 2002.
Edit: oh yes, including demo links would be nice too, if possible.
#14 Good idea.
No prizes for guessing which no. 1 will be!
Include the things like the best matches, the best rounds, some interviews, blah blah blah.
Being a huge geek myself, I know I'd buy one.
The fun thing about those matches is teams really didnt have save rounds. A guy with a usp or a DE was as strong as a colt player in many cases.
The team9 match though i thought that team9 had it the whole way. Even as CT's they were still getting a couple members of 3D every round. Everyone know Team9 was stronger as T's because of the money glitch, once 3D won 8-4 i guessed 3D would have a tough time getting 5 rounds on an exteremly strong team9. 3D's skill is the only thing that kept them in the game.
Hmm...
NIP vs RDW is one of my personal top 10 matches of all time, so glad to hear that Trevor agrees with me :D That match was NUTS. Course, I was rooting for RDW heavily since they were my team.
Biased!
that said the article is very good and i cant wait for the next installment!
