Counter-Strike: Interview with speedi of Check Six Sweden

By: David Burke - Published July 03, 2006 at 11:42 PM EDT - Writer Archive
IceCream talks with Speedi prior to WSVG Summer. Their conversation covers everything from the tournament to shopping.

Check Six looks primed for a strong run at the Summer WSVG following a 3rd place finish at Dreamhack behind NiP and fnatic, but ahead of powerful teams such as Catch Gamer, Serious Gaming, MiBR, and Alternate aTTaX. Their recent performances have made them a team to be feared in Dallas. With the success Swedish teams have shown historically in Dallas, could Check Six contend for the title? Speedi took the time to share with us his teams preparation schedule and views of the upcoming event.

Check Six Sweden's Roster:

Sweden Andreas "kixer" Sjölander
Sweden Sakchai "zaki" Kaenjan
Sweden Michel "speedi" Gewargis
Sweden Louis "red" Nyberg
Sweden Emil "strikke" Westeberg

Recently your team placeed 3rd at Dreamhack, losing twice to fnatic but finishing above MiBR and Catch Gamer, after that success what are your goals for this up coming WSVG in Dallas?

Well of course every team that attends WSVG Dallas goes there to win it but its not that easy. So, I would say a top5 would be okay but of course we are gonna go there to really try and win it.

With the way your team has been playing, that seems like a realistic goal. What has your practice schedule been like heading up to this event?

Well we have been trying to play everyday excluding Fridays and Saturdays from 18:00 to 23:00 and after that just play individually to really be in shape for WSVG. We have been going through our gameplay to make some changes that didn't work so well at Dreamhack.

Does your team spend much time scouting other teams before you play them? And are the changes you're making partially to protect you from being scouted by other teams?

Well we don't really spend that much time scouting other teams, but of course it happens when it's a big match coming up. Basically yes, that's why we are changing strats so that it will be harder to scout us before the matches at WSVG. Also, if you are a top player you have to read the game when you're playing and make the changes needed at that game point.

At this upcoming event, are there any teams that you really don't want to face early on? Is there a particular team x6 has struggled against or is there a top team at the upcoming event that you've had success against that you would like to end up playing?

I think every team has a weak point in their gameplay so I'm not gonna say it here but that's what I think. About the team thing, I would have to say no to both questions. We can play every team and put up a really good fight so bring the games on, the teams we play won't make a difference.

That's a confident answer. This leads me to believe that your team has continued to play well after Dreamhack. Is there anyone on your team thats been 'on fire' recently that we should keep close eye on at this event?

Nope, can't really answer that. I would say check 'em all out. Everyone does some crazy **** all the time :D

This trip to Dallas can't be 100% about gaming, I'm sure you'll have some fun along the way. What are you looking forward to the most besides playing in the tournament?

RICH CAN I TELL EM WHAT U TOLD US??? Haha, yeah of course we are gonna do other things. The pool is gonna be my home away from home and the others I don't know, maybe the same thing. I'll do some shopping, and some parties would be great too!!

Shopping? I never would have guessed. I don't think you'll have any problems finding a party either. Are there any players that you don't get to see regularly that you've become friends with and are looking forward to seeing in Dallas?

Yeah dude, you've got some cool stuff to buy in the US and it's much cheaper than Sweden. I can't really come up with any names. Basically the Swedish dude's are the best to hang with, but it will be fun to talk to people in the checksix organization and hang out.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. In conclusion do you have any advice for your fans and upcoming players who are aspring to become a top player like you are?

Well my routine is to play alot of pugs and public. That makes me get in shape and of course to play alot with my team.

Any shoutouts you'd like to make?

Yaaaa I would like to thank all the fans out there who still believe in us and a shoutout to all my friends and my team for having a great time. NEEEEEERF

Thanks for taking the time to do this, and good luck to you and your team at WSVG Dallas.

Thank you dude, take care.
