Winning your first half 11 to 4 on the offensive side of Nuke should close out most matches. Deadzone had to feel pretty good with that lead at the end of the first half. Despite starting the second half with 7 rounds to make up, United 5 did not give up. The Americans would go on to tie the match and force overtime.

WSVG uses max rounds 5 this event per the rules set at Lanwar; however, it appeared the overtime configurations were set to 3.

I talked to Talon of Deadzone about the changes they made in overtime; he said United 5 kept running the same offensive strategies versus them in regulation. United 5 was able to prevent Talon from effectively playing his position via good flash bangs from a pair of attackers. This, coupled with bad spawn prevented Talon from helping his teammates stop an upper bombsite rush and settling into his desired position. In overtime Talone adjusted by flashing the outside much earlier than normal and started to push the United 5’s players.

Deadzone went on to take all five rounds of their defensive side. The amazing play of Cole stopped United 5 from even getting on the board; every round he picked up multiple frags. The most important frag Cole hit was in the third round of OT. Cole was able to win a 1v1 versus Zid (and a planted bomb) in the lower bombsite with only 26 hp. Cole attacked Zid aggressively by opening the right door and prefiring the backhalls. With Zid down Cole defused the bomb and won the round.

United 5 once again kept the match interesting by winning their first 4 rounds of overtime. Deadzone started the 5th round out spread out looking for a pick off. After exchanging volleys around the map, the team quickly rolled to the ramp for an all out attack. Deadzone was able to take over the ramp room and plant in the lower bombsite eventually leaving tekn1kal, behind the glass doors, in a 1v1. tekn1kal closed out the match by fragging the last remaining United 5 player through a blanket of smoke.

United 5 will need skill and endurance to get out of the lower bracket at this time while Deadzone will have to stay focused for their next opponent, chillside.
