Counter-Strike: Virtus.pro WEG Inferno Playbook

By: Sean Casey - Published August 14, 2006 at 10:44 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Casey continues the mini playbook series with a look at strategies from the team's peformance on Inferno at WEG 2006.

Consistency is the name of the game when it comes to most of Virtus.pro’s strategies, and Inferno is no exception. By running a variety of ‘on the fly’ strategies based off of one core setup modified in an innumerable number of ways, Virtus is able to exploit weaknesses in their opponent’s defense and adjust for any unforeseen losses. At WEG 2006, Virtus put this unique philosophy to the test against some of the best in the world, with mostly positive outcomes.

Revolving around constant pressure on both bombsites throughout most of the round, Virtus’ strategies create a sense of normalcy for the defense. Despite a barrage of activity in an opposing bombsite, the defense often feels compelled to stay where they are, as they never quite know where Virtus will strike. In turn, this play style buys time for Virtus by slowing defensive shifts and allowing for easier entry into a site.

On defense, Virtus heads off rushes with aggressive play. By getting quick frags and calls, Virtus keeps the pressure on the offense and allows for quick rotations to fill holes in their defense.
