Counter-Strike: Made in Brazil's Cbble Playbook

By: Sean Casey - Published August 26, 2006 at 10:30 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Back for CAL's Week-7 map, Casey breaks down MiBR's ESWC 2006 playbook for Cbble.

Methodical, fluid play with great cohesion and teamwork, like the kind MiBR showed at ESWC 06 on Cbble, is what led them to that tournament's championship stage. Characterized by a loose, 'on-the-fly' style, MiBR doesn't tie themselves down with mechanized movements or set-in-stone strategies. Instead, they employee a freestyle type of play that allows them the fluidity they need to adjust their strategies in real-time, without the need to sacrifice a round.

Lead by Cogu's AWP, MiBR's strong play can be attributed not only to the individual skill of their players, but also to the freedom to exercise that skill with their playstyle. Whereas other teams may employee hard rushes to compensate for the lack of chokepoints a defense-advantaged map like Cbble presents, MiBR instead spreads the defense thin by getting pick-offs, alleviating pressure on those chokepoints. On defense, MiBR maintains fluidity by shifting early to preempt rushes. Although risky, if used well, such play can create insurmountable odds for the offense.
