I of course love ESWC 2005 because it was the first tournament I had won. In this game, you have your champions, and your regulars. Champions are those people who have proven to the community they can be part of a winning team, and do their job correctly. Regulars are those who could have shown their incredible skill, but can't seem to pull it together enough to place top 3 or even win an event. Going through the transition from a regular to a champion was very valuable to me, and I am sure it will be the same response by most players after they win their first event. Going into a match are you keeping anyone in mind? In other words who do you win for and why? I win for myself and my team, no one else. I keep my mind as clear as possible before the game, and just like to think of the task at hand. I try to be a very deep thinker, so I just sit and think for a while before the game, and it seems to help me a lot. What do you take to heart more, winning a big championship such as ESWC or ISC or losing a single match in the rivalry between Team 3D and compLexity? To me, winning a big championship is more important. It is a very rewarding feeling once you win a major tournament. I mean, hanging around the hotel after you have won is amazing. I just really walk around with a smile, since at the end of the day there is only one winner. But, it's not like we win everything. I do hang my head low after we lose some events, but for the most part I have understood we can't win everything, so no need to get emotional about it. The rivalry between Team 3D and compLexity is something the whole gaming world knows about. You are either a 3D or coL fan on the day these two teams are playing against each other. Do you see this as great progression in the sport and possibly the game living up to its "sporting" expectations? I obviously love the rivalry since it adds more spice to our games. I think it is great for the game, and especially for those who aren't gaming fans. This gives them something to compare gaming to, such as baseball, since people call us the Yankees and Red Sox. We exchange wins a lot, and have both proven to win major events, so that makes both teams very deadly, and good for the sport to follow either team. The latest Gotfrag World Rankings has compLexity holding the #1 spot and Team 3D in the #5 position. Do you really see three teams between coL and 3D or is the line between 3D beating coL anytime and losing much thinner than it appears? The game itself is very random, so rankings are random as well. Anyone in the top 10 can beat anyone, so I just really look at the rankings as a point system that such and such team is just in this position until the next time. Who knows if they will drop or move? 3D refuses to practice against us online, so I can't really comment on if there are teams in between us, but I definitely think there are many teams who can win at any given moment. In contrast to Team 3D who was recently inducted into the WCG Hall of Fame due to their history at WCG and most recently their consecutive WCG Championships in 2004 and 2005, what is coL looking to accomplish at the U.S. Finals and, if qualified, the Grand Finals in Italy this year? Well we obviously want to win the WCG USA and end 3D's reign at the Grand Finals. If we attend the Grand Finals, we want to win the whole event. This is the first time in a while the game that is being played is 1.6, so now this tournament is more important to watch and attend than the others. How much preparation has been put into getting ready for this event as you guys have been on vacation since after the ISC win? We have been a professional team for two years now. We know what we need to do to win. With that being said, we are going to begin practice as soon as possible, and begin to practice a lot for this event. In my opinion, practice, practice, practice isn’t the most important thing. I am a very big fan of a couple scrims a day, but making sure we play them to their fullest potential and not mess around. Sometimes playing to just play gets people burned out and just sick of the game, and can maybe even cause arguments which never help. I would assume you guys are redoing your whole arsenal as coL is the team to beat at the moment and demo scouting must be the top priority on team's lists right now? So if I told you the response to this, wouldn't you think Ron or some of the 3D guys would read this and get right to studying? Just know that we will be ready! You're probably right! Having won an ESWC title and now ISC, how important is WCG to you? For that matter how important is representing the United States in Italy to you since coL has been unable to achieve this yet? I really like going to all these tournaments, and winning the USA Qualifier would be great for me because we get to represent our country at a world finals. I always want to represent the USA, since I like to be the person in control, not watching. I feel we can always represent our country the best. |
