Counter-Strike: wNv Management Responds

wNv Gaming Overseas Manager Bo "WANGZ" Wang has responded with wNv's side of the story, and what in their words went down between the former wNv.Europe squad and the wNv organization.

First off, let’s get inside the wNv organization mindset. wNv as an organization has always been really successful with wNv.gm winning WEG Season 3 and WEG Masters. They also recently won the Chinese KODE5 Qualifier along with a lot of notable Chinese events. wNv.cn isn’t too far behind with quite a few notable finishes in China along with steadily competing next to wNv.gm. What did you think when you saw the 16-0 blowout that was handed to the wNv.eu squad? And what affect did it have on the organization as a whole?

We do not kick teams because of the score, that is not reasonable. However, we do care about the attitude of the players toward the result and that is the most important thing. When I spoke to the players, some of them did not feel ashamed or distraught over the result and was like a normal loss. It was nothing special or anything that was really shocking. However, it shocked me completely and that is what made me angry and led me to begin doubting their attitudes as professional players. To be involved in our organization you have to have the wisdom, the nerve, and the attitude, which they showed hardly any of while they played with us. I then decided the team would not attend WCG, but they were allowed to attend WSVG London, which we had already booked plane and lodge tickets along with an arranged bootcamp in Stockholm, Sweden.

Now when I got word from the wNv Senior Management that the wNv.eu squad would not be allowed to attend WCG. Some of the players came to me and talked really angrily and said they would leave wNv.eu after playing WSVG London due to the decision of not allowing them to attend WCG. When I heard that, I was completely shocked because anyone who is involved in a professional organization knows that you cannot act in such a manner of aggression or immaturity. It had nothing to do with their result but was just the fact that they left us no choice when it came to their attitude.

We heard some out lashes from the players in the manner of wNv not paying their salaries and acting negligently in the management side of things. Is there any truth to this and if not what really happened?

wNv Gaming has been established for more than three years and in these years we have not committed one act of negligence due to the solid fact our focus is totally on the players and their consideration is first at all times. In all of these years, we have paid every player’s salary on time and in agreement with their contract. The contract with wNv.eu, which includes the salary arrangement, will be published to the public if the players do not own up to their mistakes in what really happened or ways in which they stated we were negligent on the contract side of things. The salary arrangement within the contract was due to start October 1st of this year for each of the players on wNv.eu. If they correctly read their contracts they would have seen this part of the agreement. Also please note that it is sometimes very complicated to adjust an organization’s budget for the new team so the contracts were negotiated and signed. Since we took the team in the middle of the term, we all agreed the salary would begin on the 1st of October, which had officially been written down in the contract.

Some of the players also complained we did not send the contracts back to them after the negotiations were finished. The contracts were indeed sent back to them on September 13th yet as everyone knows it takes a little time for them to ship, especially considering we're in China and they are in Norway. So I believe that what they said is just a total premature statement.

Also please take into account it took quite a while before they even sent the contracts back to me. I sent Luke’s contract for management out about a week or two later than I did the players, but I still got Luke's contract back before any of the players. One of player’s contracts took even 2 more weeks to arrive after I got the other four players' contracts.

The players mentioned the “meeting” was when the team was let go due to them “not accepting everything” and basically for arguing with the wNv Senior Management’s decision. What was the intention of this meeting and was the original arrangement of this meeting to let them go or just notify that they would be unable to play in the WCG event?

There were two Senior Management meetings, in which the first one was based on if we should allow them into the WCG event due to their performance. During the meeting we then decided that the team was not ready for this event especially since their main rival who had beaten them so badly before would be attending. But we decided we would cancel this tournament attendance for them and allow them to play in WSVG London, as I previously stated. We also came to another solution that we would allow them to attend the WCG event if they paid their own way, but if they happened to win we would reimburse them fully for all expenses.

The second meeting was for the players to become aware of the situation. When I broke the news to them, their true colors came out and the attitude I received from them was totally unacceptable. After I told them WCG was cancelled, one of the players said to me that they would play the WSVG event but I would have to dismiss any of their results and not take them into account for future decisions.

After this meeting I then discussed the attitude of the players with the wNv Senior Management and the future of the team. From there we all agreed that we picked them up because we had faith in them to perform and of course act in a professional manner. We decided from the attitude we received after letting them know our decision, which was again unacceptable, that we would be letting them go from the organization. You must realize that Chinese eSports is a real business here. This is a big part of our culture and is a professional sport in China. We have room for some error but none for this kind of attitude.
