Counter-Strike: EG picks up Royle

By: hyeng kim - Published November 05, 2006 at 7:56 PM EST - Writer Archive
Team EG has picked up Ian Royle as a starter for the team.
Royle recently attended the WCG Pan-Am events with the team, and the temporary move has turned into a permanent one.

Alex Garfield, EG’s manager, elaborated, “On Saturday, the decision was finalized. We had been thinking about making this move since returning from the Pan-Am Championships in Mexico, but needed to ascertain exactly what was going on with Ian and JMC. Ian was not under contract with JMC, and that's what made this acquisition possible.”

The team’s sponsors allowed for salaried players, and so EG were looking for a stable and hard working player that would practice consistently for upcoming events. Ian Royle is a very skilled and motivated player that EG has played with and he would not negatively affect the team’s chemistry.

Royle will step in to fill the place of Erik "da_bears" Stromberg. Stromberg had been playing for zEx in preparation for WCG USA and while EG was practicing for the WCG Finals. Garfield explained that a deal would be worked out soon that would allow Stromberg to play for another team.

"As of a few months ago, Erik decided that he no longer wanted to play for EG, despite our attempts to work something out with him. Since then, several of the top teams in North America have expressed interest in purchasing his rights, and I've allowed him to play with zEx for online leagues in the meantime. I believe that a deal will be worked out soon allowing Erik to play for another team."

Royle had this to say about joining EG: "Its and honor and a privilege to be asked to play along side Canada's best."

EG’s starting five is now:

Canada Jimmy Lin
Canada Pasha "Red Dragon" Lari
Canada Matt "bl00dsh0t" Stevenson
Canada Robert "blackpanther" Tyndale
Canada Ian Royle
