Counter-Strike: WEG2005 Group Stage 2 Match Day 3 Predictions

By: Mark Cheben - Published June 23, 2005 at 3:55 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Stu "Wildman" Brooks has some predictions for how Match Day Three for the second Group Stage will end up. Will Pentagram beat Astralis? Will GamerCo beat wNv? Stu looks into his crystal ball and tells all.

GamerCo vs wNv on de_dust2
Both of these teams don't have anything to gain from winning this match except to give themselves a confidence boost for any upcoming tournaments they might attend. GamerCo was one of the favorites in this season of WEG, but a few things didn't go their way and they are now going home. Dust2 is one of GamerCo's stronger maps and should fare very well on it against the Chinese team, wNv. wNv was also looking very good coming into the second group stage, beating NoA on nuke to solidify there position in the first group stage. I don't think either of these teams are really into playing this match but GamerCo will come out top in this match up.

GamerCo > wNv 13-7

4Kings versus AbitStrike on de_dust2
This match is one of the matches that decides who will be playing who in the Semi-Finals. Both of these teams deserve their spot in the Semi's. AbitStrike has been practicing very hard for their matches and it really shows when you watch them play. They will have their work cut out for them, but so far they have showed patience, perseverance and aren't phased about what people say. They
let their play do the talking. 4Kings has also played very well in this season of WEG, beating GamerCo in an extremely close match on train. They have already showed dominance on dust2 against Pentagram and will be looking to do similar to Abit. They definitely haven't been practicing as much as Abit, but with the kind of skills they possess, they are allowed to slack a little bit. This match will go down to who can execute their pistol rounds better and who can keep the other from winning save rounds. Dust2 is very prone to losing save rounds because of the distance between bombsites.

AbitStrike > 4Kings 13-9

Begrip versus Catch-Gamer on de_inferno
I'll be the first to admit that I underestimated Catch-Gamer in this group stage. They have really impressed me with their play thus far, but I do think Catch will be hard pressed to beat Begrip on inferno. Begrip has shown they understand how to play inferno very well, picking up wins against notable teams. If Catch wants to win they will need to start out hot and keep Begrip from getting into their rhythm. If they can do that, Catch will upset another team. On both teams, every player has stepped up huge for their team, showing poise and confidence you find in players who have tons and tons of experience. I know no matter who I predict to win, bsl and the Catch-Gamer boys will make fun of me if I am wrong like I was on Astralis.

Begrip > Catch-Gamer 13-8

Astralis versus Pentagram on de_inferno
I have to feel bad for Pentagram right now. They have played extremely well in their two matches, but they couldn't close out either match when they were just two mere rounds from winning. Pentagram has played way better than anyone expected and have removed any doubt they didn't belong in the second group stage after a little controversy in the first group stage. Astralis hasn't been able to find their groove at all in the second group stage. They looked very strong early on, but after big losses in both of their matches, you have to wonder what happened. Astralis will need to pick up the first pistol round to start them off with confidence but I think with the way that Pentagram has been playing, they can take this match and they will.

Pentagram > Astralis 13-8
