Counter-Strike: Thievery cases wreck shgOpen 2007

Controversy takes over shgOpen as several thievery cases bursted in the event.
The shgOpen organisation made it clear in their website that their goal was to attract a lot of people to the event, reason why the guest entrance was made free during the exhibition and the tournaments.

This said, due to the high concentration of electronic devices in the BYOC event, security measures were expected. However, it seems that such expectations did not match what happened at the event.

A Shuttle, PSU and RAM devices were stolen from the Norwegian team Mtnine Friday night.

"They left around 03:00 CET time to went back to the hotel to sleep. When they got back on saturday to start playing the A tournament, they saw that miracle's shuttle (worth 20 000 NOK) was gone, along with scy9x's ram/psu," said Henrik Roksvaag, CEO of Mtnine.

The team engaged in talks with the shgOpen admins but it didn't do much, according to Rksvaag. Mtnine was forced to search for the computers on their own for almost three hours, without any results.

Without two computers, Steffen-Andre "Miracle" Jensen and Kristian "scy9x" Søreng had then to borrow two devices from other players that were at the event, which forced the Mtnine gamers to play Saturday's first match away from each other.

Roksvaag didn't hide his criticism regarding the security measures that were taken and even stated that the team will most likely not attend any other shgOpen events. According to him, people could just enter in the event at night without anyone checking their ID's.

"HLTV has been down some times. I don't like BYOC lan's such as SHG, seems a little bit amateurish. There have also been some problems with the network in the matches, such as during the mibr match vs noa. I also feel the communication between players-admins was bad. Mtnine tried to talk to them, but they were more interested in playing wow than helping us out," Roksvaag said.

The same situation happened to the Dutch team Shadows, where a Digital Video camera and a laptop were reported missing. Shadows also complained about the lack of security surrounding the event.

"There's no security for your properties, the security guy even said they are only here to stop fights, you can walk in and out without a ticket," said Frens de Jong, staff member in Shadows.

Regardless of this incident, the winner of the "B Tournament" believe that they will sign up for the next tournament if the proper conditions are assured.

The shgOpen staff stressed that the security conditions were improved since the last tournament and that these incidents shall be evaluated by the admins of the event.

"We are of course very sad that this has happened. We have increased our security from last year where nothing like this happened. We will discuss the situation in our evaluation," Jakob Schwartz told GotFrag.
