Counter-Strike: KF3 talks about NiP

By: Luis Mira - Published March 14, 2007 at 6:15 PM EST - Writer Archive
GotFrag sits down with Øyvind "KF3" Magnestad, former member of Ninjas in Pyjamas.
The Norwegian talent had joined the ranks of Ninjas in Pyjamas in mid-January, following a short experience with the local squad Fainted.

However, NiP decided to part ways with Magnestad, apparently because of some communication problems, without him ever having his official debut for the team.

"They understood like zero words in Norwegian (don't know how they don't understand the language since it is almost the same as Swedish and I understand it well enough)," Magnestad told GotFrag.com.

"However, it is true that they didn't understand me when I talked in Norwegian (except Emil "HeatoN" Christensen).

"I guess my way of playing didn't completely match theirs either."

By the time of his addition, Magnestad signed a trial contract, which would be renewed and become effective shortly before Dreamhack, if everything worked out.

Magnestad is still under a contract with NiP, a deal which will expire later this month.

After this period, Magnestad will become a free agent. He plans on attending the Norwegian WCG qualifier in April with the local squad Synergy Gaming, which have in their ranks Thomas "r00fz" Sandvik, former team mate of Magnestad in wNv.Europe.

"After that tournament, I just hope I get some good offers. The only bad things about Norwegian teams is that they do not like to travel to attend anything so they make up 100 excuses."

Magnestad, along with Björn "Bullen" Wall, were the removed players from NiP. According to the organisation, Wall failed to impress the team.

However, Magnestad praised the former spiXel talent's perfomances but said not to know whether or not he will continue playing.

"I hope Bullen doesn't stop playing. I have no clue at all why he had to leave since in my opinion he was the best. I haven't talked to him since we got kicked, though, so I do not know his plans."

Despite his early dropout from NiP, Magnestad confessed not to regret his choice to join the Swedish squad.

"I would do it again, anytime. It is the best organisation I have ever seen and heard about. I personaly liked the CEO (Andreas) and Emil the most, those were the people I really had a good relationship with.

"The only sad thing is that I didn't get the chance to show myself at any events or official matches."

Cant see kf3 taking part in building a new team again :/ Either he goes back to fainted.boys and form a team with enoksen/raven or he joins an established Norwegian team. (atm only expert and mym are on an international level and attend events, imo fit the profile)

GL in the future kf3 :)

HUGE talent, he will find a suitable team for sure. I thought that KF3 finally find a team that will suit him in terms of skills, but the nationality issue was just an obstacle they couldn't overcome. GL finding a new team!

#7 he is still on the roster just "inactive" anyway
Makes sense that heaton could understand him since he played with Xeqrt and Element for a long time. Kf3's talk about bullen really surprised me. Its nice he showed some respect to him and said that. That statement just shows NiP wants to win as soon as possible since Tent and face are at the TOP of there game where bullen isnt back to it yet. I also Figured that Kf3 would goto Synergy, hope he stays there or goes to either Crucial Zone or GamingORB

sucks it didn't work out between kf3 and NiP because he's a pretty good player, but communication is a big factor in teamwork as you seen between element and mibr and mousesports etc.

#8, dunno which community you pay attention to but it sure aint the norwegian one.

Personally i hope he stays along with Synergy. A higher underrated team takes time to find. Just hope they can prove themselfs outside of norway. Synergy got some hot players (syrtekz, r00fz, drei) which have yet to attend a tournament outside norway(except for r00fz in Aftermath/Wnv). With kf3 in the lineup im positive that they will be more than noticed in the figure of results.

as the matter of communication issues i seriously don't see how that can be a that big of a issue, a norwegian can speak sweedish if he wants and a sweede can speak norwegian if he wants. Only difference that would make an "real" impact is getting used to spot-names.

imo it's NiP's simple way to get the best while they still can, they spotted kf3 pretty early on and grabbed him, then they see the new begrip taking denmark by storm and suddenly goes "hey, that guy is even better, lets get him!"
(remember the "imo")

#21 The thickness of an accent can play a role. Many nip players said the same thing about walle when he first joined up with nip that he his accent was abnormally thick because he was from the north and it was hard to understand him at first but obviously since he spoke swedish it was a little easier to adjust for them

Kinda sucks if that's true about bullen doing the best. If that is true, then miniw should have been dropped but since he's walle's bro I guess it was the two guys that had the weakest social connection to the team.

#27 Untrue man, some norwegians can speak pretty close to swedish or have a "harmless" accent whilst some speak completly random. If you have a thick norwegian accent it's like a new language to most swedes, since they way you pronounce things are a lot different. A lot of norwegians "adapt" their language to swedes, since swedes have a more distinct and clear language which is spoken at a slower pace and most syllables are pronounced the way they look, unlike e.g French and to some part the thickest accents in Norway.

#31 Your ignorance and sarcasm shows nothing more than your lack of knowledge within the norwegian scene.

#32 There is zero (mark: ZERO) issues going to "straight-norwegian-nonaccent" from any other accent, and even so sweedish is not much of a difference.

lol #28, anyway, it's just weird to not understand someone who speaks the same or almost the same language, say if someone from idk texas speaks to you, and you're from NY or something, you couldn't understand the guy just because of his accent?
sick of this game -_-

#36 You missunderstand me, yes the spectre of accents swing in a very large way of understanding. Kinda hard to explain, but any norwegian can speak "plain norwegian" (thus easy to understand for a swede) aswell as "noobie sweedish". ATLEAST in the terms of understanding eachother.

Sad, KF3 is so great player, but i`m sure that he will find good team in no time. Hope will see him in action soon. yeah and about that language thing, i have heard so much about that, really usually swedes understand norwegians, i think KF3 just couldn't fill the gap in NiP, and NiP couldn't just say that in his face, so , it only shows have strong is NiP.
Can you kill them all?

#21 Kf3 is a world class player, he wont stay in a semi-pro Norwegian team for really long. The difference between semi-pro and pro is huge and KF3 is really one of the best fraggers in Europe. Its like when Element played with Xprez, all knew that he would leave and that it was just temporary. KF3 wants a team that plays the international events, that got full sponsorship and that is on an international level. Synergy is none.

In english: "KF3 spoke norwegian with a thick dialect, so it was hard to understand him and that's not what you want to be thinking about in a tight situation in an important match, so we became aware of this quite early when we practiced and realised that it wouldn't work out in the long run, explained HeatoN."

Most swedish people understand "Oslo-norwegian", but if you come from vest or north Norway, its pretty hard to understand when they talk fast.

I hope KF3 gets a solid team, if only the "old" guys could come back then we would have two top norwegians teams.
