Counter-Strike: ESWC 2007 Sweden Finals Melee

By: Gotfrag Announcements - Published June 17, 2007 at 9:29 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Four teams remain in the 2007 ESWC Sweden Qualifier. Two of these teams will earn a berth to Paris later this summer.
Jönköping, Sweden (GotFrag) - SK Gaming was a surprise in day one as a big loss to fnatic in their final round robin match spelled disaster for the Swedish team. Despite having two wins already, SK just needed ten rounds against fnatic to advance into the next stage, unfortunately fnatic were relentless and stormed through SK 24-6. Begrip, who played very well with wins over fnatic and quattrolan secured their berth in the single elimination bracket in convincing fashion with another 24-6 victory.

In Group B things played out much more as expected as Ninjas in Pyjamas had little difficulty overall going undefeated. However, a couple of those wins were closer than they would have liked against EvilZone and Cold As ICE. With no clear second favorite in the group, EvilZone took charge defeating both CAI and hippopotamus to bring themselves into the next round with a 2-1 record.

Monday will see which two teams advance into the ESWC Sweden Finals and which two will also be heading to Paris in July to represent their country. Last year both NiP and fnatic qualified and both are looking to accomplish that again this year as Sweden will once again have two spots in the ESWC Grand Finals in Paris. Group A's top finisher, fnatic, will play the runners up from Group B, EvilZone. Ninjas in Pyjamas, winners of Group B, plays the second place Group A team, Begrip. The finals will determined seeding at the ESWC Grand Finals and will be played in a best of three.

Update: fnatic has defeated Begrip Gaming in a nail biting three match set to win the ESWC Sweden Qualifier. With the win, fnatic has won a berth to the ESWC Grand Finals in Paris with travel expenses paid. Begrip has also earned a spot in the Finals event but will have to fund their own travel.
