Counter-Strike: ESWC 2007 CS Day 1 Melee

By: Luis Mira - Published July 04, 2007 at 12:13 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The long-awaited Electronic Sports World Cup kicks off this Thursday with a very busy day with over fifty matches being played.
Paris will play host once again to one of the biggest tournament of the year. A total of forty-three teams from across the globe will be in attendance after winning various qualifiers.

Last year's champion, Made in Brazil, is looking for its second title in a row and recover the number one status. Current number one in the world, PGSPokerStrategy.cc will try to secure another international title following a period away from the main stages.

The runner-up of the last tournament, fnatic, has been very strong lately with great perfomances in the NGL ONE event and is pointed out as one of the main favourites for this event. The Finnish side 69N-28E comes from a great campaign in the WSVG event and is also regarded as a team to sit in one of the ESWC prizeable places.

Following the move of 3D and compLexity, two teams that finished among the top eight teams last year, to Counter-Strike: Source, Team Turmoil is the only American name in action in this year's event. The squad performed well in the WSVG event and may be a team to look out for.

All the action is scheduled to begin at 10:00am CET (4:00am EST) with Groups A through D in action. The remaining Groups will begin one day later, and are scheduled for 4:00pm CET (10:00am EST).

GotFrag will be your home of full coverage of the ESWC this weekend so make sure you stay locked to us. Also, do not forget to set your Personal Timezone to find out exactly when the matches will be played in your area so you do not miss any of the action.

GotFrag TV will be streaming the event live in cooperation with GIGA, watch the stream at tv.GotFrag.com. Octoshape technology to stream video in order to keep video quality at the highest possible level, and so that everyone can tune in. You can download the plugin HERE.

UPDATE:: Fnatic defeated emuLate in the tie-breaker game and therefore will finish first in the group.
