Counter-Strike: e-Stars Seoul attendees confirmed

By: Luis Mira - Published July 12, 2007 at 8:11 AM EDT - Writer Archive
The teams that will compete in the e-Starts Seoul 2007 have been announced.
The Counter-Strike competition will be a four-team tournament which will have in Made in Brazil and fnatic its latest names, despite the recent reports suggesting the participation of the current ESWC and WCG champion PGSPokerstrategy.cc.

MiBR and fnatic will join two Asian teams in the tournament, eSTRO and X7-Hacker. The Korean side failed to qualify for the ESWC second group stage, while the Chinese squad wasn't able to attend, having been replaced by wNv.cn.

In the Warcraft III event, 4Kings' talents Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen and Yoan "ToD" Merlo are the only European names competing. Although the winner of the ESWC tournament, Seong Deok "SoJu" Lee, will not attend the event, many of Asia's strongest players will compete, such as Jae Ho "Moon" Jang, Xiaofeng "Sky" Li or Jae Wook "Lucifer" Noh.

With a total prize purse of $71,000 USD, the tournament will take place from August 9-12th in Seoul, South Korea.

The official prize distribution and attendees are as follows:

i understand why they would invite 2 asians teams.. at least they chose the 2 best! fnatic is a good choice and so is mibr, but a better team like pentagram should have been chosen instead.
Only two good teams now are PGS and Virtus Pro.

there are 4 teams only because the korean public hardly cares about cs, so they make a small and short event

#19 where do you see wow ?

well, you can't complain about the prize money.
it's a 4 team competition, and a team will win at least 2.5k.
mibr got 4th at ESWC, that has a lot of matches and teams, and won what?
nothing

Imo, it will be more interesting to see these 4 teams playing for the win. They all have almost the same level (considering that it is on Asia, where the asian teams are used to perform better than on international competitions), so anyone can have this.
If PGS join this, they'd probably win, so it wouldn't be very interesting...

You guys have to realize that the majority of this work was done MONTHS ago. It is only now becoming public to all of us. It's a shame that PGS isn't on the list because they certainly deserve it. This is also not a WEG event. The city government of Seoul wanted to host an international tournament. This event is funded by entirely by the city of Seoul and the government. WEG is only organizing the event because their parent company, CJ Media, won the public bidding to organize the event.

Of course the Koreans like RTS more than FPS games. The only popular FPS games in South Korea are Sudden Death and a game called Special Forces or something. The Korean CS scene is dead.
