Counter-Strike: UKPL 2007 Playday 4 Melee

By: Eric Webster - Published August 28, 2007 at 4:45 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Week four of the UKPL league is underway with Dignitas taking on Pocket Rockets.
This week should be a rather unusual in the UK Pro League because the matches will be played on the map that no one ever plays – Strike. Also, as half the teams are attending the WCG UK Qualifiers this weekend only one match will take place tonight; while the rest of the matches have yet to be scheduled.

The only match tonight is between Infused-Gaming and Immolate. Infused are the favourites going into the match following their strong showings in last week’s games. Immolate have a lot to prove after replacing the defunct eom squad and have yet to get on the board. Anything could really happen on strike, but I predict a comfortable win for Infused as they so far appear to possess superior aim.

The match of the week is clearly between WCG UK winners, 4Kings, and arguably the third best team in the league – Overtime. Unfortunately, this tie will be slightly ruined as it is taking place on Strike, but should definitely be worth a watch. 4Kings will almost certainly not be wasting any precious practice time on this map. As far as I know, Overtime do not have any major events coming up to concentrate on, so they may well put some practice time in. A lot depends on whether or not Kardy remains in Overtime until he goes back to University as he had previously stated he was only playing for WCG UK. If he plays I could see the match going either way – if he doesn’t 4Kings should comfortably come out on top due to the lack of team chemistry that a replacement would bring.

Another potentially great match is between highfive and Strong. On recent form I’d say Strong have to be the favourites going into this match. They appear to put the time into tactics and this is reflected in their very ‘strong’ offensive sides. This should help them out a lot on Strike as in my opinion it is quite a balanced map and they have the potential to dictate the game from the Terrorist side. Highfive, on the other hand, appear to be a completely skill based team and will probably have problems against strong’s offense and it is also incredibly unlikely that highfive will have practiced this map. This match should be a comfortable win for Strong.

The final match this week is between Dignitas and Pocket Rockets. Usually I’d predict a comfortable win for Dignitas against anyone but 4Kings and overtime. However, after the debacle at WCG this weekend it brings doubt into whether or not Dignitas will fold, undergo serious roster changes, not schedule the match, or all of the previous. If they do turn up with their normal team they will no doubt win comfortably. It will be very interesting to see how Dignitas rebound from WCG in this match.
