A new South-American league was launched, with the top Peruvian teams in the move. Read more about this new event and the matches that are coming.
Announced some weeks ago, the Intel Xtreme League 2007 invited 10 Peruvian teams (Speed, BadGirls, EviL, JustFrag, PoC, S.pe, sACte, KoA, C.Zone y Engine), to play for nine weeks in order to determine the winner of the 10,000 prize purse in sponsored products. This league is sponsored by Intel, Kingston Technologies, LG Electronics, EXIN Computers and Terra Networks.
The format of the event will be very similar to the recent format used by eStars: the teams will play two maps, chosen from the mapcycle (de_dust2, de_inferno, de_nuke, de_cbble and de_train) via discard mode. Each team choses one map to discard and the referee discards another random one. The rules are max rounds 15 with the standard CPL-based regulations. The winner of a map receives two points, the loser zero points and if there’s a draw, each team receives one point. Since two maps are played, a team could return home with 0,1,2,3 or 4 points, making this format very useful for a league mode.
Trying to establish between Counter-Strike and soccer (the most popular sport in Latin America), each team will have a Lan Center that will work as a "Stadium." Sometimes the teams will play as the home team and sometimes as the visitors. Additionally to that, each sponsor brand is "adopting" a team, in an effort to give each team the option to become a serious and professional gaming squad, considering that there are only two formal teams in Peru.
The plan of this tournament is to develop a high competition level in Peru first, ultimately expanding to Latin America later, with national and international events. Additionally to that, the sponsor brands are developing alternative activities to the event like 1v1 contests and, eventually, an Open division that will be the qualifier to the current Invite division.
