Counter-Strike: UKPL 2007 Playday 5 Melee

By: Eric Webster - Published August 19, 2007 at 1:28 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Week five of the UKPL League kicks off this Sunday with two matches being played.
The UK Pro League moves into its fifth week tonight and will be rather unusual as there are currently three matches scheduled to take place. This week’s map is Train which could potentially cause some upsets as it is quite possible to win on CT skill alone. This is what most of the teams will be relying upon as a lot of them have undergone roster changes going into this week’s matches.

Arguably it’s a toss up for which match is the match of the week, but I’m going to go for Infused-Gaming vs. strOng~ . Both teams have played four games and have won two lost two so far and this match should be the decider for fourth place. Infused and Strong both look similarly skilled on paper. Paper doesn’t, however, tell the whole story as Infused arguably possess slightly superior aim, while Strong have vastly greater tactics and team play. The powerful T sides that strOng~ possess should be the deciding factor in tonight’s match so I’m going to go with them for obtaining a close win.

The other contender for match of the week is Overtime vs. Highfive. Highfive have really drawn the short straw when it comes to match scheduling having drawn the top three teams in succession. They’ll be looking to break the losing trend tonight with an upset win. Overtime, on the other hand, have just come off an expected, albeit disappointing for them, third place at WCG UK. The rumours are that they’ve undergone some serious roster changes, losing both Kardy and madSpunk. This would certainly be a huge blow for them and could see them fold completely. This match is scheduled for tonight, but whether they’ll show is uncertain. Highfive certainly don’t have any skill shortage in their line up, although they do have a shortage of motivation to practice. I would, however, expect them to win this week over a fragmented Overtime squad.

The next match tonight is Dignitas vs. Immolate. Dignitas have confirmed today that they have cut wilzOO from the team following his actions at WCG UK, and replaced him with a standing in Mangiacapra. For many in the UK, this is the move that we all anticipated. In any event, they shouldn’t have any time immolating immolate tonight with the shear skill advantage they possess. Look for them to start CT and win 15-0, leaving them will very little to do as T.

Currently unscheduled is 4Kings vs. Pocket Rockets. The WCG UK winners shouldn’t really face any difficulty in this match apart from turning up on time, which they have been very good at so far this season! Pocket Rockets might be able to put up some rounds if they start T and Wez is on form, but I think it’s a tall order for them to put up more than ten rounds against the Kings.
