Counter-Strike: Turkey to miss WCG

By: Luis Mira - Published August 21, 2007 at 6:20 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Turkey won't have any representatives at the World Cyber Games event after Samsung has decided to cut the financial support of the qualifier.
The qualifier was supposed to be organised by the local company Siberlig, an organisation that has prepared the Turkish WCG event since 2002.

According to Siberlig, Samsung and some of the other sponsors have decided to cut the financial support, which would make it impossible not only to organise the qualifier but also to send the teams to the United States.

This is not an unparalleled situation, as Samsung announced this month that it would cut the financial support of the Spanish qualifier by 70%.

Tunē "Carpediem" Sertataž, player of DarkPassage, last year's Turkish Counter-Strike representative, said: "We are sad with this situation. We hoped we would be the ones representing Turkey in the WCG event but now it is impossible."
