Liam Crowley sat down with Patrick "par" Lucy from Irish World Cyber Games representatives Team Eugh at The Digital Hub in Dublin last weekend. ![]() Hey there Partick, thanks for joining me. You're playing here at the Irish World Cyber Games Final and have just beaten Pong in the upper bracket final. Tell us a bit about how that game went. It went pretty well but it was tougher than we expected it to be. We thought we might get a slight scare but we ended up getting a bigger scare than we thought we would. The second pistol round we lost made it a lot closer than it would have been otherwise I think but they are good players. They gave us the best match we've had so far, I mean we've only played two games but that was by far harder than the first one. You came here as relative favorites to be honest. Now that you have won the upper bracket final are you confident of earning your spot on the team in Seattle? Well winning the upper bracket final is a big weight off our shoulders. With the double elimination system we only need to win once now, while we had to win twice to get the tickets to Monza last year. So we're about as confident as we were before, it's just knowing that it will be that bit easier now. As you mention there, you were a member of the team that represented Ireland at the World Cyber Games last year in Monza. Was that your first experience of a big tournament and how did you find it? Two weeks before WCG 2006, in the interim between the qualifiers and finals, we did attend WSVG London which was our first big tournament to kinda warm ourselves up for WCG. We didn't do too great at either of them really though. At WCG we got a forfeit win against Moldova because they didn't show up and we took Japan to overtime. It was a very good experience though. A year later now, assuming you do win the final here, how confident would you be going to Seattle? To be quite honest, possibly less than last year because the team, due to circumstances outside our control, came together later this year and we didn't get as much time to practice. The qualifier is obviously quite close to the finals so we will only have two weeks to practice. Our group this year I will say looks easier than last year, but who knows what will happen? You mentioned that the team came together a bit late for these qualifiers. How did this happen and where did your players come from? Well there's me and Kam, who I played with for years and years in suiGeneris, which is what we were called at WCG last year. Also we have practical, who was in an older version of suiGeneris, he wasn't here last year but he's come back now. Vertakill is from DNC, which was the best Irish team 4 or 5 years ago that went to a number of CPL events and he teamed up with us last year and has again this year. Finally we have Jimmad, who came from Wink who were actually the favorites going into last year's qualifier, so we have kinda poached him from them this year. Page:
