Counter-Strike: CEVO Pro Season 7 Preview

By: Brent Meeder - Published October 10, 2007 at 6:10 PM EDT - Writer Archive
CyberEvolution is back for their seventh season and it looks to be a big one. Sixteen teams will run the eight week course to battle for the chance at $10,000 and crowned champions.

We begin our journey into CyberEvolution's seventh chapter of the professional division. Now we see a bigger team list then last season and be sure to look for an interesting eight weeks coming up. Many can see how the talent of Counter-Strike 1.6 teams is changing since the CGS was created. The loss of many great teams hurt the community by a huge margin. As teams move on, its time for the mediocre teams to get their shot to becoming a top tier team.

You can't sell the new teams short just yet as we've seen it all when it comes to CS. Turmoil's inability to advance in playoffs last season baffled the community immensely as they were going on a undefeated season. A team has yet to repeat their championship since compLexity. Will that change this season? Can Check Six find a stable fifth? How will the ten new teams stack up against the rest?

Check Six

United States Shawn "Des1re" Khan
United States Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert
United States Phil "Crypt1c" Kovach
United States Thomas "thoMz" Garcia

Recent Accomplishments

1st - CEVO Pro Season 6
1st - PNY XLR8 Gold Tournament
2nd - WCG USA 2007
2nd - KODE5 USA Regional Qualifiers

The reigning champs make their return to the field and will want to another shot at $5,000. Des1re and company are still on the prowl to find a fifth for their squad. They've been using Jonny "eng" Faulds, former Immenint Demise teammate, for a couple of tournaments thus far. During those tournaments, Check Six has yet to come out on top. Most recently, Check Six fell short to Turmoil (16-3)(16-13) at the KODE5 Qualifier this past weekend. Unless the team has already decided on a new fifth, their progress with Faulds hasn't made much of an impact. Looking to bounce back, you can guarantee something up their sleeve for the new season opener.

eMazing Gaming

United States Nazar "steno" Vynnytsky
United States Scott "evolution" Cavallero
United States Matt "Lim" Beahan
United States Michael "chE" Guevara
United States Robert "Ph0bius" Irey

Recent Accomplishments

2nd - CEVO Pro Season 6
4th - WCG Finals 2007

A team that has truly jumped out of nowhere to start dominating globally as well as they are nationally. Recently taking second last season in CEVO-P, they will be hungry for a better finish this season. Their most recent accomplishment was a fourth place finish from 2007 WCG Finals in Seattle, which many didnt expect. Although they had a ringer for WCG, the team has shined immensely this past month into proving they are a top team in this game. While many teams just scrim to get practice in, they go over their mistakes before jumping into things. American Extreme Masters will be their next test in the middle of October as the European teams will be welcomed to the United States.

Turmoil

United States Matt "PaTyoJoN" Iantosca
United States Derrick "impulsivE" Truong
United States Ediz "goodfornothing" Basol
United States Joe "perez" Perez
United States Dan "mehLer" Mehler

3rd - Buy.com 2007
3rd - WCG USA 2007

Now their last season finish was a shock to us all. EMazing Gaming sent them to lower bracket very early on de_inferno and Turmoil couldn't bounce back. After barely defeating West Coast Rockers in overtime the next match, x3o was able to eliminate them for good. Since then, Turmoil has shown a sign of life. This past weekend, they won the KODE5 USA Regional Qualifier defeating Check Six twice and a trip to compete in Las Vegas for the KODE5 Finals. Learning from their mistakes, the team progresses with flying colors and will continue to be a top tier team unless someone can prove otherwise.

West Coast Rockers

United States Kevin "ele" Keelan
United States Jose "deadpooL" Gonzalez
United States Chris "wreckz" Santos
United States Jon "kthx" Davin
United States Nick "spectro" Olea

Recent Accomplishments

4th - KODE5 USA Regional Qualifiers
5th - CEVO Pro Season 6

No matter how many hits they take, they will get up and try again. Yet to give up on competing at a top level, wcR will want to begin on a good note this season. The lack of practice hurts them the most when thats the missing link to creating chemistry. Also, their KODE5 performance with a few ringers wasn't all that great as they struggled with some lower grade teams. They can be hit-and-miss at times and getting those close rounds when it counts, but always falls just short.
