Counter-Strike: CGS Announces CGSOnline

During the CGS World Finals press conference the CGS announced that it has plans for an online division.

BREAKING NEWS: Following up on the rumors posted on GotFrag forums about the possibility of a CGS online league for Counter-Strike being in the formative stages, GotFrag's Editor-in-Chief Mark Cheben posed the question of the rumors legitimacy to CGS Commissioner Andy Reif during the CGS World Finals press conference.

According to Reif, CGSO also known as CGS Online plans to embrace the Counter-Strike community with online content, as well as competitions. Those competitions will be for both CS:Source and CS:1.6.

Reif went on to state that while Counter-Strike: Source is great for television, they see 1.6 as a part of the online component as well.

Details are coming out by the minute and updates will be posted as soon as they are revealed.

then you'll still have CAL with its free league

all you have to do is go to the cgs website, and have a look at some of the videos there to realize that it is one huge joke...

I'm wondering if any of the CGS source teams will switch to 1.6 assuming (if there is prize money) the pay will be equal.

1.6 players don't hate CGS I dont think, speaking as a 1.6 player myself the only reason I ever really disliked CGS was because they kind of took a game that a lot of people see as just good visually and terrible to play. they claimed to care about the community but completely ignored 1.6 and never even considered it.

I think 1.6 players will have mixed opinions about CGS now, since now the stance that CGS has and how they are willing to see how 1.6 is embraced in CGS by the community. I think CGS will only grow in popularity and hopefully they finally see that 1.6 is the more popular option (maybe?) :)

i normally don't post here, but you kids are pathetic.... all until now you have been bashing cgs and then all of a sudden cgs announces a online league for 1.6 and you guys act like its the best day of your lives.......grow up and accept the fact that your failures at w.e game you play.

even though #22 is joking, he's probably not far off. 1.6 doesn't need a stageshow to tell them how to play their game.

i'm glad it's online only. if it weren't we'd be watching 5 swedish dudes on computers clicking a keyboard with a bunch of bright lights and a crowd cheering in the back instead of the actual gameplay and half-way decent analysis. for those of you who watched CGS can understand why nobody in their right mind would tune in to that crap. 1.6 doesn't need another CXG

It will surely be like CAL and CPL, an online amateur league with several different games and a pro league with the games we know...
Because "Counter-Strike: Source is great for television" while 1.6 is not.
Very good operation from CGS that is trying to seduce the most people involved in esport.

Needs some prize payout or something like a flight out for a LAN final.

There's no real reason for teams to start practicing a different ruleset. >.o

Good news.

#19 I don't know if that's entirely true(the ignoring 1.6 part). Remember, they did a pilot with 1.6 before they even considered Source. It was where they had Complexity, 3D, NiP, and another team(which I'm failing to remember off the top of my head). Most people seem to forget this event even happened.

But I agree with the rest of this statement. Hopefully this pulls away some of the animosity driven towards CGS. While I don't find CGS to be the most professional venue for players, the point of the show definitely furthers everyone's agenda. Ah well.

Sounds interesting.Not going to get all happy just yet about this until more info is spread about this new idea, but hopefully this is something that can be good for 1.6 I hope.

I see as being the downfall of Source.

Once CGS realizes the mass amounts of 1.6 players worldwide I see them switching game formats.

1.6 will never be on T.V. now that source has been. Use your brain. Plus... ONLINE. Meaning, not on television. This is not 1.6 "making" CGS. This is CGS including 1.6 to gain support... ROFL if you thought this could mean any top CGS teams going back to 1.6. Please continue. I enjoy licking your tears.

this was only a matter of time ofcourse. But anyway #37 all 1.6 players including me hated it cause of the horrible rules etc. most ppl flamed the event and didnt really follow it. CGS is doomed anyway cause of the terrible riability u got of other gamers of like DoA and PGR/Fifa. The broadcasts are laughable and probably even 1.6 wont turn around CGS from dying.

#41 Stupid. Valve just announced that 1.6 could be on TV aslong the show isnt all about Counterstrike. So this is the beginning of the end of Source being in the CGS cause of TV licencing. Terrible game must gtfo tv before people think the real counterstrike is "source".
