Prize Money by Teams
It's good to be....well good It says something when the two top teams take home nearly a quarter of the total prize money awarded. With fnatic and MYM both earning over $100k a piece, it shows that they exist in a tier above all the other teams competing this year. Last year, fnatic took home a total of $124,844 and the second place on the top earners list. With compLexity dominating a different game, fnatic was able to take the top spot this year, barely holding off the Poles. Much more interesting though is the difference in earnings for fnatic between this and the past year only differs by around $150. While the token saying goes "it is much easier to get to the top than stay there," fnatic appears to have done just that this year. While MYM finished off last year stong with a win at WCG, this year they relied much more on their earlier winnings to put them towards the top of the list. With early exits at this year's WCG tournament, their winnings were comprised of a wider spread of events this time around. Ukraine's Breakout Year This was clearly a break-out year for the Ukrainians. Last year's top 25 did not feature any teams from the country, however, this time around two teams landed their way on to the list. With Amazing Gaming shocking their way into a third place finish at the WCG Finals, and pro100 taking care of business at the year's early ASUS cups, the Ukrainians inked their names onto some big cheques. Also, let us not forget the success which Virtus.pro enjoyed upon adding Ukrainian stars Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko and Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev, securing their place in the top 10 earner list this year. SK Officially Back in Business SK was looking pretty down and out last year, failing to even make the top 25 list. This year they struck back with a vengeance, taking the fourth spot on the money list and helping fnatic to push Sweden to the top of the country earning list. The US is Still Alive and Kicking If eMazing Gaming did not make enough of a statement by taking home fourth at WCG, the fact that four teams who represent the states have ended the year on the list should. While they haven't made as much of an impact as compLexity and Team3D did last year, being anywhere in the top 25 shows not only that the US scene is alive and well, but that the team's who were considered middle tier a mere year ago, are finding themselves able to step up on the global stage.
