FPS title Counter-Strike and MMORPG Everquest have been banned in Brazil. Procon, a federal entity established to defend the consumers' rights, has already begun apprehending all Counter-Strike and EverQuest copies in the state of Goiás, as these titles have been considered "inappropriate" and "harmful for consumers". Procon is already investigating several LAN centers in the state, and starting yesterday, seventeen have been notified. According to Procon, these games have to be deleted from every computer, otherwise the owner will have to pay a daily fine of almost $3,000 USD and may have his establishment being closed. In stores, all Counter-Strike and EverQuest copies have been removed from the shelves and sent to the Ministry of Justice. "This is a big damage, because our games are original, and although Counter-Strike is old, it is the key-game of every LAN house," Lucas Tiago Bretanha Abacheri, owner of Escuderia Lan House, told UOL.com.br. Sebastião Natal de Oliveira from the Goiás section of Procon has already stated that all server providers will be notified by Monday, although he was unable to confirm if this service has also been prohibited. Meanwhile, Electronic Arts (EA), the official Counter-Strike distributor in Brazil, has already commented on this matter, saying: "EA has not been notified by Justice yet (...) EA is waiting for the Judicial notification to take the appropriate measures." |

damn so much talent in brazil aswell. they might have to cross the boarder to play cs lol
this has to be a joke.
Plus there's still STEAM.
They better pay back every single copy of the game + server costs that are paid in advance. They are literally stealing money from people by doing this. They bought the game/servers and now they can't play anymore? I would freaking take this to court if they told me I couldn't play something I bought 100% legally and took my copy of the game. Well, we know that won't happen, that would be too fair to the people who bought it.
No but seriously... this is silly. Counter-strike isn't harmful, and now MiBR will have to do all of their training overseas... even though thats where they do most of it anyways.

Brazil's gov. is not wondering why civilized countries such as USA, France, Canada and a lot of European countries have this game (CS) as a major event for the community. It's all about fun, positive gathering, friendship and brotherhood...you meet your friends at LANs, you meet big teams that you like to play with online...it is a video game.
This is the very grave decision which has just taken the government of Brazil, which limits the freedom of the individuals and the possibility of being able to enjoy playing virtual game with the other friends...
Silly....
