In the first article in the Pages From The Playbook Of series, NoA, now mTw, uses an effective strategy to maximize the earning potential of a save round after losing the pistol round.
Welcome to another new series from GotFrag - Pages From The Playbook Of. These articles differ from our traditional playbooks in several ways; the most notable difference is that it is one play on one map. The goal of these articles is not to provide knowledge with which to better enjoy upcoming matches, but to inspire teams to try these strategies and make them their own. I hope you enjoy the first of many articles in the Pages From The Playbook Of series.Mark “jESUIT” Cheben
Getting the most from each and every round, be it a gun round or save round, is extremely important to your teams' success. In save rounds, milking extra money (planting the bomb or taking guns from the enemy) is a huge help in subsequent rounds. NoA, in this play, does just that by making sure the bomb is planted.
NoA was up 13-2 going into the T side of Nuke, they then lost the pistol round. At this point they could of very easily just said "okay, we have a huge lead, lets rush ramp" and moved on to the third round.
Instead they use a clever, relatively simple, but difficult to execute play that allows them to gain extra money from a bomb plant.
This strategy’s goal is to make the defending team think they are defending against an upper rush. With a coordinated flash bang assault, NoA sells the fake and ave slips down the vent to plant in the lower bombsite. This earns NoA the extra money for a bomb plant and allows them to buy in the third round.
Expert Opinion Jonas "BSL" Alsaker Vikan | A first or second round plant can, believe it or not, be instrumental for a team’s success in a high level match. Allowing oneself the opportunity to full buy in the third round can offset the balance on the CT checkbook. In this case NoA goes off the deep end with a strategy that requires a lot of practice and dedicated players. It is risky but rewarding at the same time - AND they look good doing it! |
Here’s how they execute this strategy.
ave - Ready to open squeaky door
- glock, two flashes, bomb
MJE - Behind ave in squeaky room
- glock
Sunde - Outside T entrance to hut
- usp, one flash
zonic - Inside hut
- glock
hpx - Outside T entrance to hut
- glock
Sunde tosses a flash bang through the hut window into the main entrance. This blinds anyone playing close outside or in the entrance.
zonic enters hut behind
Sunde's flash bang and checks the main entrance for blind defenders.
zonic holds for a second to allow
hpx to rush into upper and then rushes into upper looking for CTs blind from
ave's flash (described below). During this,
Sunde joins up with
ave and
MJE by the squeaky door and rushes upper.
At the same time that
Sunde throws his flash,
ave is crouching and opens the squeaky door with his body. As the door opens, he banks a flash off of the door when it reaches about a forty-five degree angle. This isn't necessarily a difficult throw but the timing is important. His crouching gives him the upward angle that allows his flash to bounce up towards the rafters near the ladder. This flash affects both rafter corners near the ladder blinding anyone sitting there.
With the door fully open,
ave follows up with a second flash towards the far vent to blind any defender there and further blinds rafter CTs.
MJE and
Sunde rush into upper behind
ave and together with
hpx and
zonic, attack the site as if that's their target. What appears to be an all out rush into the upper site is really a diversion for the real objective of this strategy. With all the flashes going off,
ave shoots the vent by squeaky after throwing his second flash and drops lower while the defenders are occupied.
After dropping down the vent,
ave runs into the lower bomb site and plants. With the CTs distracted above, he is able to plant the bomb with no problem and sets his team up for a full buy in the third round.
Timing the flash bangs correctly and making it down the vent quickly are the keys to the success of this strategy. It's a low cost solution to getting that extra money advantage in your first and second buy rounds.
