Counter-Strike: Brazil bans CS from Campus Party

By: Luis Mira - Published February 01, 2008 at 10:34 PM EST - Writer Archive
ESBR understands Counter-Strike to have been banned from Campus Party 2008.
Campus Party 2008 is scheduled to take place from February 11th-17th at the Cecilio Matarazzo pavilion in the city of São Paulo, with the organization hoping that it will attract thousands of visitants during this week.

The Brazilian Justice has released a judicial order in which it forbids the Campus Party Brasil organization from having any Counter-Strike competition.

It is still unknown how this will affect the Brazilian national qualifiers for 2008. According to the ESWC official website, a national partner for this country has not been found yet.

Stay tuned to GotFrag.com as we will bring you more info about the Counter-Strike situation in Brazil.

Why are you blaming Uncle Sam? Notice CS isn't banned in the US. And don't generalize school shootings with just us. There was an incident in Europe a few months back as well. Not to mention all the crazy MMORPG-related deaths/murders in Asia.

So, in conclusion. Shut up.

I found pretty interesting the decision of Brazil banning the game from shelves and now a competition.

because of some nutbags that been playing real life RPG killing each other. I don't think gamers making a living out of gaming should be punished for somem psychotic people act.

Well, what can we brazilians do huh. The country is democracy, but yet banned things happen, for the good of the young i would believe. We got bad problems with guns in CERTAIN parts already.

i feel sorry for g3x/mibr. they have mostly been in the shadow of the old mibr. as soon as the old mibr go to cgs they become the best team in brazil by far and very capable of competing internationally. now this happens. no cs. bahahahah poor g3x

#3 - i think it has more to do with brazil having 500000 murders in the past couple of years... sure most of those are drug related.. but you know how politians like to blame anything other then the actual problem.

Hope you all vote. If you stay sucked into the dream of virtual reality, you won't notice when your country too slides into despotism and your liberty disappears. Until, of course, the Chinese/Russian/whatever tanks roll in and your precious, precious internet gets cut.

And by then, it's too late.

#33 Yes we can still play online, but they are destroying the LAN scene. If things keep going in this direction, soon cs will only be in our memories. We only have 1 internacional good team (maybe 2 if u consider css), soon we will have none. STUPID MOTHERFVCKER PIECE OF SH*T COUNTRY.

This sets such a dangerous precedent, where before they banned sales, now they are actively banning the playing of the game when it's (hopefully) legally purchased. You guys down there need to organize.
