Counter-Strike: five with guddo

Just before SEC started GotFrag had a chance to speak with Martin "guddo" Cording, the manager of mTw.dk, about his team's chances.

With mTw's recent roster change and failure to qualify for several recent tournaments, it seemed like a good time to interview the manager of mTw.dk, Martin "guddo" Cording. We asked him five questions about how he thinks his team will do any why they are in the shape they are.

Your team placed second at WCG 2007 and ESWC 2007 and yet are seeded 5th at SEC 2008? How do you feel about this?

I think the main reason for our drop in seed is our lineup-change. It's fair to make us drop since Counter-Strike is so much about teamplay, which takes time to build up and keep stabile. Our roster change combined with our online hattrick-loss, leading to missing to major tournaments, explains the seed perfectly.

mTw barely missed qualifying for Extreme Masters and missed the NGL playoffs. How has this affected the team? What effect do you think it will have on your play at CeBIT?

We haven't been satisfied with our latest performances so we felt like it was time for a change; replacing hpx with whimp. We have been practising awfully much since the change, so we're highly motivated to show the world what we've got!

On your SEC roster hpx is listed. Are you playing with him for this event or are you using whiMp? How has whimp meshed with the team so far?

We are using our latest addition whimp. Since whimp has a great personality he’s a pleasure to have in the team. Game-wise he is a quick adapter, so we have had no problems in getting him in to our game-plan.

WCG styled events favor the underdogs. For instance emulate winning WCG 2007 and SK’s squad winning SEC 2007. Do you feel coming into this that you’re an underdog? How do you plan on capitalizing on this and how do you plan on preventing your own team from being upset?

First round brings us Greece who could be dangerous which some of them have shown in their CB NC matches, but it's hard to tell if they can do the same kind of damage in the real "clan-games". It's pretty safe to say that Greece will be the underdog, but we certainly won't underestimate them. Going in to the tournament we know that there are at least five teams who got a good chance of winning the tournament – we still aim for top3.

What things have your team been working on to get ready for this event? How confident are you coming into this event? Who will be the top three in your opinion?

We have been bootcamping for nearly a week to polish our game-plan and individual skills, making us feel really confident. It's hard to point out a top3 with this kind of competition, but I’d say fnatic, roccat and us.
