Counter-Strike: Revival Tour Predictions

By: Rob Maher - Published April 25, 2008 at 11:26 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The GotFrag staff bring you their predictions for the Revival Tournament.

We've always had fun with our predictions on the GotFrag Staff and we think you've always enjoyed that... There's lots of trash talking that accompanies the writing of a prediction. With the GotFrag Revival Tour, we've decided to bring back our predictions, but with a little twist. Our experts have mapped out how they expect the tournament to unfold, NCAA style.

Sixteen of North America's top 1.6 teams are competing in a double-elimination tournament this weekend, April 26th-27th. Among these teams are EG.usa and x3o, whose rivalry can be compared to that of coL and 3D. EG.usa have been getting the better of their confrontations on LAN, but their recent online showings have been sub-par. Right on these two teams heels though, is MoB Gaming. MoB seems to have x3o's number, defeating them twice in CEVO. The remainder of the field is comprised of teams that can win it all on a good day, and were chosen for this tournament for that very reason.

Also, we have decided to do a little contest around these predictions. Check it out HERE for a chance to win an Ikari Optical Mouse.

Without further ado, the brackets:

I really like X3O in this one. Why? Revenge. The team that is now EG.usa went to WCG, is going to KODE5, and beat X3O on their home turf at the first X3O qualifier event. Add to this EG.usa's weakness Online with some tough losses to X3O and others. They'll place top three, but MoB will push them out of the top two.

EG.CA needs some more time in the saddle to crawl out of their hole and MNM will have one of their better online performances in memory. With the first map being Dust 2, look for a few upsets ... like ttb beating EG.CA and GR possibly taking down NoPression.

Midway's Bracket

The top three seem obvious to anyone who has followed 1.6. Arguments can be made about which goes where but I think at the end of the day EG's team is slightly better then x3o. Down below that, I like NoPression who has really played strong in CEVO-Main and will come out with something to prove.

I like them making noise in that lower bracket. The recent news of GB's leader James not playing this weekend makes me question them in the first round against a strong iPlay team but even the loss will give GB favorable lower bracket matches.

Lee's Bracket

You know, part of the reason we’re doing GRT is so that I could get schooled again in the 1.6 scene, so I’m fairly sure I’m going to get schooled here. I’ve got x3o vs MoB in the finals, with x3o winning out in one. MoB wants it, but x3o has a little payback to get and I think they’re gonna lay it down. They may prove me wrong, but I’m going to go with x3o in the finals.

Along the way though, MoB is going to knock off a great EG.us squad, because I think they want it more. EG.us is going to put up a serious fight dropping the old Texas fav’s (or not, depending on who you talk to) Mug N’ Mouse to lower brackets. MnM is going to take out the old GB crew in the lower bracket in what I’m thinking will be a tight match. GB’s old timey strats might pull it out, but MNM’s young blood should win. GB’s going to boot EG.ca from the lower bracket pretty easily with their old school strats on Train. GB has a chance to prove me wrong on Mill vs x3o but at the end of the day, it’s going to be x3o ftw.

Shrew's Bracket

Let me just throw out that Britney Spears is probably more stable than some of these tournament rosters. CuZ playing for I-95, then not playing for I-95, then hero ringing in his place is just one stop on the emotional roller coaster that I call making my picks. Other important considerations included the fact that Jame^s is out of town this weekend, leaving GB to use Timmeh then lbs as a ringer, and the fact that the iniquity guys left from Eximius on Thursday night. Throw in the kicker that Mill is being played for Upper 2/Lower 1 and you've got yourself a veritable grab-bag fiesta of potential upsets early on.

All that being said, I'm fairly confident with my bracket over these other guys. My one weak spot here is going to be that towards the bottom of the seed list I know very little about some of those guys. I had to make a few leaps of faith, especially in lower round one. Key matches are going to be I95/MnM and NP/MoB. If i nail those I should be alright.

Singlecoil's Bracket

I watched the EG lineup at WCG this past year and I still think they are are America's best 1.6 team at the moment. I think overall we may see some upsets on Dust2 and Mill but in the end the veterans will pull ahead. I like my Texas boys in the Mugs, they may stumble a bit but I think we will see tham in later rounds. With the "Godfather" at the helm, I think we will see MoB continue to improve and become a mainstay in north American 1.6. Without James, I don't think GB will make it to the late rounds.

Some of these matches will depend on the final lineups of these teams. Since the Revival announcement, we have seen some scrambling on the part of teams to put together a roster strong enough to take out EG and x3o.There could be some upsets but I think it is safe to say we will see the likes of EG.us, x3o and Mob in the final rounds.
