Virtus.pro recently added its third Ukrainian player and would thus have the possibility to attend that ESWC qualifier, which will take place this weekend.

However, the Ukrainian ESWC committee believes that Virtus.pro is not entitled to participate in its qualifier as it considers the team to be part of a Russian project.

"We are interested in a local team winning it, therefore we are now discussing the possibility of banning Virtus.pro from the qualifier," said Mikhail Seleckiy, member of the ESWC committee in Ukraine.

This leaves Virtus.pro's participation in the ESWC qualifier seriously in jeopardy just one day before the start of the tournament.

Dmitry Smith, WCG Russia head organizer, said: "I do not know the reason why the organisation does not want to allow Virtus.pro to participate. I am aware that the Russian and Ukrainian offices of Intel [Virtus.pro's main sponsor] are conducting negotiations to solve this problem"

Team manager Konstantin "groove" Pikiner stated that Virtus.pro will remain in Ukraine until the end of the tournament and will fly to Moscow on Monday.

i can see where they're coming from, virtus being a russian organization, but that's just stupid to bar a team from playing if they meet the roster requirements to play.

Yeah. Virtus is a Russian organization. So what? The team has three Ukranians. If coL picked up a Ukranian team would they be barred from the ESWC qualifiers there? Boneheaded decision IMO.

i agree with #8 ukraine need 2 slot. And the problem of the organisation being russian is bs. Its like sk or fnatic or mym not being able to participe to the swedish/polish qualifier. ESWC isn't like wcg, you don't need 100% of the players with the same nationality, above 50% is required so virtus pro should be able to do the ukrainian qualifier.

Makes no sense that a committee can affect a decision such as this considering it's a rule -- if they have 3/5 players from Ukraine and the rule is you need 3/5 to participate/qualify, then the rule shouldn't be "affected" because they want "a local team"...

classic case of bent rules in cs... because no one takes it "that" seriously.

pretty dumb if they arent allowed...so many gaming team organisations are based in countries where the cs team isnt. they have 3/5 eukranian players which according to eswc rules should allow them to play the eukranian qualifier.. dumb

It should matter WHERE your organization is located

Examples:
Fnatic. There CS team won the Swedish ESWC qualifier but fnatic isn't a Swedish organization.
Same goes for both mtw.cs and MYM.cs ...

The whole 'project' thing makes no sense (I understand the circumstances are different since fnatic.cs is 100% Swedish I am just saying)

#16 - Why exactly should the organization's location matter? Unless the team members are from the same country as the organization, it's not players live in that country/region... -- there is that 3/5 rule for a reason and an organization only supports a team, it shouldn't affect where they play or qualify.

talk about a bunch of haters...

if that so called committee bans vp, they should no longer be allowed to be a part of eswc. Trying to work around the rules just so they can get what they want.

the name they wouldnt care about either as who cares what ur team name is, so that means they only care about the organisation.

i would be suprised if more than 50% of teams playing eswc played under an organisation that originates from the same country as the players. fnatic isnt swedish, mym isnt polish, mtw isnt denmark, sk isnt swedish, the list goes on.. that is the DUMBEST thing ever. gg eswc
