Counter-Strike: EG invited to attend ESWC

By: Philip - Published August 11, 2008 at 11:12 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Team EG will in fact be attending the ESWC Grand Finals after all as the team has been invited to join the competition.
The Evil Geniuses have been added to the prestigious list of top Counter-Strike teams that will be attending the ESWC Grand Final in San Jose later this month. Team EG originally failed to qualify due to the US qualifiers being held at the same time as the KODE5 Final. EG then were unable to earn a spot at the ESWC Masters in Paris.

EG will be the fourth American team that will be competing in the ESWC along with X3O, MoB Gaming and 34 who all qualified through the ESWC USA qualifier. GotFrag spoke with Alex "chibsquad" Garfield, manager of the Evil Geniuses, and this is what he had to say about the situation.

"Well, we had a very rough experience in the ESWC online qualifier; I don't want to get into the details, but as everyone knows, we were forfeited out of the qualifier while representing the USA in Moscow at KODE5," said Garfield. "We didn't feel this was fair, and after the qualifier we submitted a grievance to the Head Admin for ESWC USA as well as the ESWC Organizing Committee in France. Last week, we were offered a berth, and graciously accepted it. We feel that ESWC made the right decision in this case and are very grateful to both the folks in France as well as those in the US for offering us this opportunity."
