Counter-Strike: EYESports, Dragon skip ESWC

Russian team EYESports and Chinese squad Dragon have been confirmed as absentees at the ESWC 2008 Finals.

According to NiceZ.com, the ESWC organisation would not finance Dragon's trip to the United States, which has made the Chinese runner-up cancel its participation.

The Chinese news website further claims that the team's manager, tiger, has retired, which also lead to this decision.

EYESports, who was drawn in Group C, along with the likes of mousesports and LowandLions, has confirmed to GotFrag.com that it won't attend this year's ESWC finals.

Despite winning the local qualifier, proplay.ru would not pay EYESports' expenses from the trip to California.

"The organisers of the tournament, proplay.ru, would not pay the trip to the winners," Ivan "Xenitron" Totsky told GotFrag.com.

"Our organisation does not have the money to send us to the United States."

These two dropouts leave groups A and C with just four teams.

This ESWC 2008 very very very bad in national qualifiers, they need make this like WCG or 80% of countries wont have qualifiers in the next eswc events. WCG & ESL find very good qualifiers for all countries, and help for make this, ESWC very expensive.

still a great list of teams #2, and I coulda swore I read that Lunatic Hai qualified via ESWC Korea , but I guess that was false, pretty sure I read it on lunatic hais website.

I agree with it wierd no finland/spain/korea/denmark as usual though, even tho teams are attending from those countries via ESWC Masters (not spain) may have something to do with it

its sad that the nr1. qualified team of russia doesn't get free flight tickets & accomodation. soon only the teams who can afford to go to the finals will go to the finals meaning a lot of talented teams will not be able to attend simply because they cant afford to spend thousands of dollars for flight tickets and accomodation. hopefully today or tommorow some organisation who wants to be represented at the eswc will contact eye and pay the tickets after all. if eyesports practices enough they would definitely be a dangerous outsider.

I thought Dragon would of played really well. Its a shame. They played well @ eStars, and whatever team K1ngZ is on, just auto plays well.

eswc already stated why they wont not pay the fees for both teams

the ESWC is an olympic esports organization, much like WCG and they are punishing CHINA and RUSSIA for the bs they have pulled recently

sad to hear about EYEsports. eswc should invite a-gaming imo, next best team not in attendance. tho it's probably too late for them to arrange flights
