Counter-Strike: ESWC 2008 Results Roundup

By: Nick Bee - Published August 27, 2008 at 11:19 PM EDT - Writer Archive
While most eyes were on the main CS 1.6 tournament this week at ESWC 2008, quite a bit more were watching some of the best matches between top competitors from around the world in a large variety of other games.
The 2008 ESWC Grand Finals at NVISION 08 has completed and once again champions have been crowned in the prestigious event. The event had traditionally been held in France but moved this year to the NVIDIA sponsored trade show in San Jose, California. The event encompassed three days of sponsor exhibits, keynote speakers, technical conferences, a live concert, GeForce LAN, a Guinness record breaking non-stop LAN party, the 2008 ESWC Finals and more.

The ESWC event came to a conclusion with several good finals and an awards ceremony crowning the champions. GotFrag was at the event and an overview of the coverage can be found below.

Men's Counter-Strike 1.6

One of the most explosive Counter-Strike tournaments of the year had more than its share of surprises. Nearing the end of the final day of competition, last year's defending victor took on an aggressive Asian team looking to become the first ever champions from the East.

Southeast Asia is really pushing DotA into competitive gaming. Bigger prize pot for DotA than CoD4 and TF2.

The bigger prize pot in DotA is due to the fact that DotA is a ESWC game TF2 and CoD4 are nVision events.

DotA even had on-stage finals.

Good event. Nice tournout in all games and very thrilling matches. ESWC knows how to run a event.

#11 They just recently lost their sponsor, they WERE Nexus Gaming. They're a solid team and it was a pretty good tournament otherwise. ESWC was a blast to watch.
