With the third GotFrag Revival Tour rapidly approaching, Zu-wang 'demos' Wu of .50|Calibre Gaming takes his seat beneath the spotlight for a nonchalant look into the life of the player. Name: Zu-wang Wu (Zeus) Alias: demos -={ZOI}=- Age: 20 Location: New York, NY Current Team: .50|Calibre Gaming Past Teams: Zebras On Ice, iPlay/focaL Favorite Game: Counter-Strike 1.6 Can you please tell us who you are and a little about your gaming history? I’m a crazy, tree climbing, Asian, ivy league, Counter-Striking, alcoholic. I started playing 1.6 about 5 years ago, but only started lanning about 1.5-2 years ago. I first began gaming with old consoles like superNES, n64, and gameboy. After that I pretty much moved onto strictly pc games (Starcraft, D2, CS, Gunbound, WoW). I never really quit at a game until I feel I have beaten it. What has been your most memorable moment in gaming? Winning my first lan at Gamestation last winter against an old eMg pug with (nickF, Nepo, projeckt, and b33f). It was a last minute pug that we put together, and at that point I was still really inexperienced. However, after winning that lan, although I still had no idea what I was doing, I knew that at least my aim was on par with the top tier. It gave me the confidence I needed and allowed me to worry about all the other aspects of my game. What is your most memorable in-game/match moment? Well, I enjoy climbing trees while intoxicated… and we were playing forge this one time and I got boosted in the tree on that map. That round resulted in me killing 4 GB members because they had no idea where I was. It was only until after the round was won that everyone on my team was like: “HAHAHHAHHAH it’s just like in your profile picture.” What else do you do besides gaming? Enjoy food, snowboard, drive and all other things that are “WHATS REALLY GOOD!” What is the story behind your alias? It is short for a Greek philosopher, Demosthenes, who I first read about in one of my favorite books, “Ender’s Game.” How would you describe your game in terms of play style? Individually, I try my best to make sure I have all the fundamentals of this game down. I make sure my aim, communication, in-game knowledge(flashes, awareness), and teamwork are on point. Looking at the bigger picture, I try to get my entire team on the same page. This page I am referring to is this: We utilize communication to gain information on how the other team is playing. Taking that information, we take advantage of our numbers at a fast enough pace such that our opportunities do not slip away. The last piece of the puzzle after knowing where they are weak and when to go is our execution. This game is really simple, there is only 4-5 maps that are ever really played so it really is no challenge to understand what the opposing team is doing. I look for the day where we have more US teams that understand this concept and readily apply it. When this happens and everyone starts playing fast paced numbers, looking for advantages, taking opportunities, misleading information…that is when US couterstrike will be taken to another level. It will be a glorious mix of fragging and playing something similar to lightning chess. ![]() Zu-wang 'demos' Wu What makes you unique as a CS player? Uhmm, I have noticed my experience allows me to make a lot of the moves I make, without me actually thinking about it. More of a natural instinct type of thing. In addition, I am always looking to get better, if there is any part of this game that I do not know; I make it my passion to learn it. I basically am always looking toward perfection for every aspect of my game play. What is something that very few people know about your team but should? Due to the vast number of slanty eyes on our team (8), we find it very hard to stop attacks that come from above or below. But in all seriousness, I really appreciate the attitudes of my teammates and how much some of them have been improving recently. The same attitude I mentioned before, I look for and am very happy to see in them. Given time, I expect great things. Oh and of course, a shout out to our awesome sponsors: Secogaming, Stealthservers, Purevoice, & Puretrak If you had to pick a team, besides your own, to win GRT #3, which team would it be, and why? EG, they play the right way (they are mostly all on the same page, have 5 guys with good fundamentals), and if they fix their executions, they have a very good chance of winning. How do you personally prepare yourself for an event? Do you have any rituals that you perform before matches? During the Lo3, I have made it a “ritual” to say/type : “Strength and Honor.” It’s something that we used to do back in the day with zoi. (It comes from the movie Gladiator). Who is your personal hero or role model and why? Well, I do not have a particular hero or role model, but there have been many people that have brought me to where I am today. Some of the people I have appreciated playing with and learning from: Keith “k33fsaMa” Kim Tony “xan” Lo Johnny “LiLdawg” Kim Liridon “quas” Ademaj Mike “che” Guevara And a lot of things here and there from other east coast players. And of course, the old Zebras.
