Counter-Strike: Interview with sakula

By: Bo Wang - Published September 21, 2008 at 10:19 AM EDT - Writer Archive
We had a short conversation right afer he knew he had to miss ESWC Grand Finals 2008 held in U.S due to an invalid residual period of his passport. During the talk, he expressed, for the first time, his intention to quit. And today, the thought finally became a decision.
Wu "Sakula" Runbo has decided to retire from competitive gaming, bringing an end to a nearly six-year career as one of the greatest Counter-Strike players in China.

Sakula had been an indispensable part of the team since he joined wNv in 2004, he was never either in the reserves or on the list of lay-offs, even during the time when changing line-up occurred at the highest frequencies in wNv.

With Sakula's retirement, now a hearsay that Zhengwei "alex" Bian, the captain of team wNv, will also quit becomes popular across the community.

I contacted Sakula at once with this curiosity and few questions. A short interview can be found below:

You have been in competitive gaming for nearly 6 years, now looking back at it, what's the biggest happiness and the sorest pity?

The biggest happiness for me is knowing all these good team-mates and friends, we suffered difficulties and distress side by side, we shared victories and joy together. I will never forget those periods and moments. The heartbreak is that we failed to grab a championship outside China.

Now there is a rumour about alex's quit, is it true?

Alex doesn't know of my decison yet, I will support him as usual regardless of his decision.

What are you going to do next?

I am not sure at the moment, all I want to do now is to have a rest. I really need some time and a quite place to calm myself down.
