Counter-Strike: x3o gives fnatic an early test

Oscar "Archi" Torgersen and Matt "PaTyoJoN" Iantosca reflect on the fnatic and x3o group play match at EM III: LA.

The first big match of the Extreme Masters II LA event just wrapped up. Fnatic took on an enthusiastic x3o on arguably their best map, Train. After several swings in momentum, the Swedes ended up taking the match 16-12. Following the match, GotFrag was able to speak to both Oscar "Archi" Torgersen and Matt "PaTyoJoN" Iantosca about the ins and outs of the match.

The pistol rounds were crucial in this match. What caused the outcome of those two rounds?

Archi: On the pistol rounds we just tried to do random gun round stuff. CT side we did a pretty default setup, we just dropped DSN and f0rest deagles and that seemed to work well. We knew coming in that we would have to change up our pistol round tactics.

PaTyoJon: I don't know what happened on the pistol rounds. It was a mess. We knew what they were doing. No one executed.

Other than the pistol rounds, what do you think contributed overall to the outcome of the match?

PaTyoJon: We rushed way too much on T side. We should have slowed down, and just picked off. That seemed to work for us. Ct side we were on a good roll. If we had won the CT pistol round, we would have won.

Archi: I don't know. The match was pretty close. I don't think we brought our A game. We we're making a lot of mistakes and then we let Patyojon win a 1v4. They are a good team though. We've seen them playing at ESWC earlier in the year.

Speaking of the one on four, Matt what was going through your head during that?

PaTyoJon: I knew I didn't have much time. I had to kill the spawn ramp guy, all while they were chasing me down.

After that round, you (PaTyoJon) stood up and screamed all sorts of stuff at Archi, who happened to be sitting directly across from you. Let's talk a bit about that.

PaTyoJon: I was just trying to demoralize them and get our team pumped up and try to use it to gain as much momentum as we could.

Archi: Yea I just started laughing. I was thinking 'That's so American.'

What do you guys think your teams will take away from having such a close match early in the event?

Archi: I think having a close match so early in the tournament is good. It definitely gave us a wake up call. We know we need to start using our A game or we might lose a close match like this one. We've had some trouble in the past two events; losing or having really close matches during group play. We are trying very hard not to have that happen here.

PaTyoJon: A match like this always helps us out. I mean each time you play against a Euro team you learn. It's the best practice in the world. Now we just need to apply that to the Guardians match and make sure we get out of group play.
