Counter-Strike: zonic on mTw's early exit

By: Jeff Suckow - Published October 03, 2008 at 7:39 PM EDT - Writer Archive
GotFrag caught up with Danny "Zonic" Sørensen right after they were eliminated from the EM LA event by PoV.

mTw came to this event looking for a bit of redemption. Nick Fitzsimmons, the manager of x3o, made it clear to me that both mTw and his squad were looking forward to a showdown later on in the event. Since the teams were placed in different groups they were both looking ahead for a rematch of their ESWC encounter. Whimp eco'ed Fitzsimmons' sentiment, in that mTw was excited for the chance to prove that the past match was a fluke. Unfortunately for them, lightning stuck twice. Another underdog US CS team has beaten them. Following their elimination at the hands of PoV, GotFrag spoke to Danny "Zonic" Sørensen about what was going on with his team.

Looking back at the PoV match, it seemed like you guys were just unable to get anything going on your T side. What was going on in the match that kept you from winning rounds?

We froze in game. We just had a bad tournament. We have our work cut out for us when we get back home. We lost key rounds and just couldn't come back.

On your CT side things didn't look much better. What went wrong during that half?

We lost momentum and our money was completely wrecked so we kept losing.

What do you think contributed to your overall lack in performance at this event?

We have a bad history with playing in the morning. In our first match against Roccat, we just weren't able to hit our shots.

Now that you've been eliminated from the event, what are you guys going to do? What is on the horizon for mTw?

Now we are going to enjoy the rest of our time in LA. We are heading back and have to focus on winning WCG Denmark. Then we are off to Dubai and then China. Hopefully we will be able to add Germany for WCG to that list.

What did you think of PoV? Do you think they are a good team or would you say that the loss was more due to what your team didn't do rather than anything in particular from them?

They played well. I don't think we purposely underestimated them. We try to never underestimate any of the teams we play, regardless of what we might know about them. The Americans know how to aim so it's not like we don't have any respect for them.

You guys have been around long enough to have played against some of the historically great US teams like coL and 3D. After losing to x3o at ESWC and now POV, do you think the American teams have reached the same level that the US teams in the past had?

I think the American teams like POV and x3o are doing well but they still have some work to do. If they keep doing well and placing top five at international events they could be considered close to that level. I mean 3D and coL didn't just place well, they won international events. The sure seem like they are close, I mean they did beat us.
