Counter-Strike: n0thing talks about EG in the finals

Evil Geniuses is in the upper bracket finals for ESL's EM III LA. Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert talks about being the possibility of being considered a top team.

Evil Geniuses have had a sort of Cinderella story event at e4all so far. They are undefeated in the WCG US finals, and are in the upper bracket finals for EM III. On their way, they have defeated both MYM.PGS, and fnatic. Following their match with MYM GotFrag spoke to Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert to see just what was going on with their team, and where this sudden success was coming from.

You guys have just beaten back to back European teams, along with cruising along in WCG US. Do you think you should be considered a top international team?

People don't always consider us part of the world top team echelon. They underestimate us. But we know as a team that if we play our game, we can beat any team.

You're heading into the finals against a red hot MiBR team. What are your thoughts on playing them?

MiBR is a really energetic team with good aim, good communication, and a ton of experience. They play a fast paced game similar to us. So far we've been playing slow - methodical teams. While that is a part of CS, we are looking forward to playing a team with a similar style.

POV has kind of had a break out event here. Did you ever expect them to be able to compete with the international teams?

I did. I've know them for a while. They are all friends, and I think NineSpot touched on that in an interview that they have no pressure to perform. So I expected them to cause some upsets. I still don't think they are fully developed so that means they should only get better. I wish them the best of luck in the rest of the tournament.

What do you think about teams watching your demos right before playing you and antistratting? Do you guys ever do that to get ready for a match?

Actually, we don't really plan on it. Most the time we only watch demos when we know a team does a strat well and we want to know why it works. This way we can get some ideas from them and incorporate it into our own playing.

I spoke to zet right before your match, and he noted how unfair it was for your team to have to sit directly across from a team who can understand every call you make, yet you can't understand theirs. In each of your matches against European teams, you've had to sit across from them. Do you think their being able to hear your calls impacts your matches?

Obviously the other team hearing your calls can have an impact on the match. We try not to think about it so that it doesn't affect our mental game.

Now I've got to ask you. In that match against fnatic, when you had over 30 points in the first half, what was going on?

I played my game. I just played confident. No matter who you're playing you should play your team's game, not theirs. Some of those kills might have looked easy, but they all just came from us playing our game. In the end, dropping 31 doesn't mean a whole lot if you don't win, so to me winning that match and advancing was much more valuable to me than getting that many kills.

Thanks for the interview, good luck in the upper bracket finals.

Thank you.
