Counter-Strike: WCG USA 2008 Day 3 Melee

By: Brent Meeder - Published October 05, 2008 at 12:19 AM EDT - Writer Archive
X3O locked down the WCG USA Championship title, and secured for themselves a trip to the World Finals in Cologne, Germany.

(Los Angeles, CA) -- After two intense days of group and bracket play, we will conclude the third with X3O in the final bracket awaiting their opponent. All three teams have been competing in both the WCG and Extreme Masters tournament which has taken a toll on each team. Losses from the European teams in the EM tournament have brought hopes down at times but that looks to change as they take center stage to represent the United States.

WCG USA 2008 Final Standings

1. United States X3O - $15,000 USD
2. United States Evil Geniuses - $7,500 USD
3. United States Paragon of Virtue - $3,500 USD

Hard to say who had the better day out of EG and x3o.

While EG placed 2nd at this WCG quali and 3rd at ESL compared to x3o's 7-8th at ESL and their first at WCG.

EG came out with $13,500 while x3o came out with 15,000 while not even getting in the money in one of the events. Just goes to show you how much more money there is in counter-strike if you win any tournament.

#9 dream on. They accomplished a good amount already. You can not really ask for much more. I'm glad to see x3o win something though. Losing to POV in ESL was real sad.

#6 - Don't forget about the trip to Cologne, Germany :)

Nonetheless, a great event with quite a few you-had-to-be-there matches, can't wait for the next one!

#13 - Well that's how the double elim format has always been -- Upper Bracket winner only needs one map to win while the Lower Bracket/Consolation winner has to take two maps to win. That's the advantage you get for winning all the matches and staying in the Upper Bracket :P...
