Counter-Strike: World eSports Masters Breakdown

By: Nick Bee - Published October 25, 2008 at 7:24 AM EDT - Writer Archive
Top teams in both Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft 3 compete in Hangzhou, China for their part of the massive $100,000 prize purse.
A new major Chinese event, the World e-Sports Masters, is due to take place from October 26th to November 2nd in Hangzhou, China. The competition features Counter-Strike 1.6 as well as a quintessential Asian RTS, Warcraft III.

The tournaments will feature congruent formats where the first three days consist of an eight team group stage to determine the top two teams or players for each of two groups.

The second half of the event pits the top four teams/players in each discipline against each other in a single-elimination best-of-three bracket play which includes a third place run-off match.

Good news for those of you with abnormal sleeping habits, the action kicks off at 6:00am EST/3:00am PST

Notice: While WEM will be unable to provide HLTV access to their matches, all demos will be available for download following the event. In the meantime, if HLTV is made available, it will be posted ASAP.

Nice list of teams. Always nice to see the Asian teams play to. Dragon beat MYM not to long ago... will be nice to see how much they have improved since then.

Why is this tournament being stretched over 6 days? It could be over within a day or 2.

QUOTE:
Note that there will NOT be any HLTV available. The WEM organization will not allow us to connect HLTV's and broadcast the matches. We however choose to make the matchpages, so you guys can bet and discuss the matches as always.
Instead of HLTV there will be some livestreams, we will do our best to include the livestreams here on our page. If that is not possible, we will link to them from here.

#29, no, definitely not chinese decides whether or not provide hltv, that's the korea fools who don't allow hltv connection, you'll take WEG1,2,3 as example. china just provide the gaming area.

#10 is this really the reason why we don't see any american teams in these global events? Is CGS really that controlling of their teams or are American teams just not being invited?

#38

They wanted the best Teams in the world to fight against the best teams
of asia. Best Teams atm are fnatic, sk, mym, mtw and mouz.
Would CGS didnt burn out 1.6 in the US and kept the best US Teams
to play source at their own competition, I m sure they would have
invited for example complexity.

Its realy sad, that the US do not have a Top 5 Team anymore. CGS...
