British team Dignitas has criticized the rules of the World Cyber Games' Counter-Strike tournament as the players feel they have been wrongly eliminated from the tournament. Quoting the WCG rules, in case of a tie, "the following criteria will be used to determine standings". a) Total Points b) Head-to-Head (Total points obtained in the group matches between the teams tied) c) Total amount of rounds lost in the group matches. Since the three teams were once again leveled according to the second criteria, the third one had to be used, thus eliminating Dignitas - who had lost more rounds than its direct opponents - from the tournament in the first day of play. According to Dignitas, the second criteria is completely wrong as it should look at the total rounds obtained in the group matches between the tied teams instead of total points. "The widely accepted interpretation of the rule is to only take into account the rounds between the teams that are tied," Alex "AlesKi" Way told GotFrag.com. "Shiva (the WCG event organizer), agreed but due to a typo in the rules he would not put us through." "ESWC has this rule (rounds between teams tied). We spoke to several other top players and admins and they all agreed with our position." ![]() If the WCG had used Dignitas' proposed rule, then the British side would have secured passage into the last 16 instead of Immunity as it holds a -2 record from the matches against the tied teams, while the Australian team has a -4 record. And Dignitas - who filed a formal complaint - also proposed that the three teams should play between them once again to decide who qualified for the knock-out stages, a solution rejected by the WCG.
Commenting on the team's spirit after being eliminated in the opening day, Way said: "Next time we will try to turn our anger into headshots." ![]() |

Australia > England once again.
these guys just cant accept Immunity going through over them
Dude its every year the same story.
I think there is nothing wrong with the rule, the teams knows it before, so they could hade taken action before. like finishing the 30 rounds.
they will lose to gameplay tmr
(loosing 5 vs 4 olold)
Dignitas are a MUCH better team then iM.. whoever the hell they are, last tournament dignitas drew with mTw and lost by 4 rounds to mibr.. immunity would get trampled by those teams, and will do tomorrow. Unlucky dig, once again things not going our way but np. oh and first game of the tournament, playing some team who've bootcamped for about 6 years, on a map like d2.. can go either way, i just hope dignitas get iM at the next big event. stupid aussies.
How are they "a MUCH better team then iM.. whoever the hell they are" when they lost 17:13 to them?
dignitas also beat norway.... ??
#29 - yes they did play spinners, and yes they did beat them 30-0. dignitas lost 4 rounds to them. If you had of played better and beat them 30-0 as well you wouldnt be in the miss mess
#20 - and we beat your english team. 17-13 i think ?
#22 - shame they iM will get raped 2morrow, what kind of an attitude is that. Why not just invite 4 teams to WCG coz im sure (SK, estro, MTW, MYM) would rape the other 40 odd teams that attended. We came second in our group we should have the right to challange teams better than us.
#21 - We bootcamp d2 for 6 years ? we played 1 major competition outside of Australia a year, and we beat you fair and square on D2 (a common played map, not like it was tuscan) . You are from europe you had all year to bootcamp d2 against decent opposition.
Dont say it was "the first game of the tournament" there was at least 70 rounds of warmup played.
If you had of just beat us "easy beats / crappy team" on D2 straight up, this wouldn't be an issue. You lost to us. Suck it up, and try better next time.
Also, dont try and write it off as a fluke, we also beat Def Stars, and VL aswell.
but you couldnt even beat us, surely your chances of beating them are just the same.
Bottom line is, AFTER 5 MAPS WE BEAT YOU HEAD TO HEAD AND ON ROUNDS.
oh and for the record, we have only played Gameplay/Roccat once before, and we lost 17-13 on Nuke
annnnd pretty sure gomez just sacked your asses in posts #40 and #41, so I'm not even gonna bother.
Even based on rounds won/lost - dig won less and lost more. So what the hell? I haven't read it
properly but.. just seems odd they thought they should go through.
If they took it a little more seriously against the terrible teams like spinin, then they would be where
they would have deserved to be. But they didn't.
GL to iM, hope they make some upsets.
UL Dig, better luck next time.

this exact same situation has happened several times before (at least one time previously including australia) and has followed this ruleset.
that rule has been in effect since the first wcg, so it's hardly 'unfair'
yes some of my fellow countrymen have been immature, but this is a very rare opportunity for us. plus, here's something to chew on - the last time aus played an english team was fzer0 in 2003 vs 4K at ESWC, which resulted in a draw, and the same situation with 3 teams tied for the same spot.
