Team Immunity will be hoping to cause an upset against GamePlay in the first round of the World Cyber Games. Immunity's reward for progressing to the Round of 16 is a meeting with GamePlay, who placed third at Extreme Masters Dubai. The ex-roccat squad finished top of its group with 13 points from its 5 encounters, having surprisingly been held to a draw by Malaysia's [TeamLZ]. However, one can surely question whether the Finnish players' hearts were really into it as none of the group matches really demanded GamePlay to bring out its A-game. That's one advantage GamePlay has over its opponent as Immunity really had to sweat to book a place in the last 16. Benjamin "benoR" O'Reilly has been riding high on form in Cologne and his services will be required as Immunity attempts to write a giant-killing story. Although the Scandinavian team is highly favoured for this match, Immunity's chances can't really be written off as the team will do everything in its power to put Australia back on the Counter-Strike map. Immunity has been very impressive so far but I believe that GamePlay just has that top team and player experience that Immunity lacks a bit. Something else that supports my belief is that this is GamePlay's first must-win game of the tournament and they most likely won't be just fooling around taking chances, but will rather be prepared for a solid Australian opponent.
My prediction is 2 - 0 to the Finnish. I wish both teams all of my luck, though!
iM is not a top team
don't forget, this Aussie outfit is vastly superior to the one which went over for WCG last year and defeated K23 in a group of NoA and emulate.
I'm pretty sure Dignitas thought the same thing.
go bengazyam
gl iM ;D

the people writing them off with no more than a glance at the flag should clue up and stop being so ignorant... so quick to write off teams you know next to nothing about. last encounter aus & finland was Immunity vs. 69n-28e – 13 : 17
The iM team then was good but with Ben and Gareth in the team now its a different story.. these guys don't care about past history and really don't care about reputations.....
For australian teams (and others) theres inhibiting factors like lower quality competition, less exposure to different styles of play, fewer big stage opportunites etc. but in the end they need to play well, read Gameplay well, and have a team performance. If Gameplay on the otherside do these things, iM will struggle to keep up with them, but if iM continue to put in team performances and can get a foothold in the game it should be an interesting encounter.
iM have had a quality bootcamp, have an internationally experienced caller, and are a group of confident players, which is some good pluses, compared to Gameplay this isnt neccesarily looking like that great a list, but iM have been able to do some very positive things to help improve their level of play and confidence in the lead up to this event. WCG historically has allways had some out of the ordinary results and teams "over achieveing" compared to the beliefs of the masses, TEG in '03 placing 4th, GBR from singapore placing 5-8th in '04, k23 2nd in '05, amazing gaming 3rd in '07. Sure some of these you can put down to the "brilliance" of the WCG seeding and pool play system and therefore soft runs for teams, but theres a fair share of wins vs more fancied opponents in that list aswell.
Gameplay obviously have had more/better opportunities, and Gameplay are the favourites and deserve to be, but in the end its going to come down to 3 maps of play (which should favour Gameplay) but iM arent eliminated, Gameplay have every right to be a heavy favourite, but iM are an unkown quantity, if they can get into the match from the first 5 rounds they are absolutely capable of winning these games, they have allready defeated a fancied diginatis team (maybe digintis where underdone, maybe they performed bad first game of the day, its irrelevent, what matters is that iM could convert 16 round wins for the match, not getting into the 3way group play tie issues), it doesnt matter whos better in a head to head tournament all that matters is being that little bit better then the team against you each step of the way.
Are iM going to be better then Gameplay? probbably not, Gameplay deserve to be big favourites for this match and obviously are, but cs competitors are human, confidence can fluctuate depending on circumstances, people handle pressure differently. Just because Gameplay have more experiance and community faith doesnt mean they are immune to the mental side of the game, and if iM can start stronly putting pressure on Gameplay early rather then being the ones waiting to break, it will be an interesting 2/3 maps. Are iM capable of doing that to someone of Gameplays quality? Dignitas was a good start, and thats what the aus community will be coming out in scores to see.
Gl iM, hopefully the two teams sit kinda close so that gazrs screaming irritates gameplay enough to get them over the line.
