Counter-Strike: k23 sends PUTb home in WCG Day 3

By: Luis Mira - Published November 08, 2008 at 8:23 AM EST - Writer Archive
k23 came out on top in the match against PUTb, throwing the Russian team out of the tournament.
This was rated as one of the most exciting matches of the WCG's Round of 16 as k23 had been trained by former Virtus.pro member Konstantin "groove" Pikiner, so it would be interesting to watch who was the better team.

Alexey "LeX" Kolesniko was confident that PUTb would be able to repeat the campaign made by KPOBb last year in Seattle, where it placed 5th-8th.

But the team coming from Kazakhstan was ready to make life anything but easy for PUTb after eliminating local representative Team Alternate at the group stage.

Things started out well for k23, who managed to get an early lead over the Russian side. Despite PUTb's efforts to get back into the game, k23 took de_train 16:14.

On de_inferno, PUTb started the brighter and reached half-time leading 8-7. It was expected that the Russians would be able to confirm their superiority but k23 was just too strong, winning the second-half 9-2 to book a place in the Quarter-finals, where it will meet e-STRO.
