Developments from the WCG 2008 Finals. According to officials, an underage player in a non-specified game at the WCG event was competing under a false age. In Germany, it is illegal to participate in or even spectate games with a mature rating if you are under the age of sixteen. Apparently someone present at the event had called Police, warning them of a minor in the midst. Inside the Counter-Strike area, head officials went to each player on each team one by one and verified age. Once it was confirmed with a valid ID that the individuals on a squad were of age, the matches continued. If an underage player in another game is indeed found, we will post all updates on the situation. But for now, play resumes as usual. Update 5:32 CET - It has been confirmed by top WCG officials that the suspected underage player is or was in fact competing in the Counter-Strike tournament. Just now, an official from the agency that organizes and runs the WCG Finals came into the play area, halting matches from progressing while a thorough check of ID's against a list of player information was made. The player they are searching for is obviously not still within the ranks of the remaining teams as play has now resumed. Officials are conducting these checks in all games at this moment. More updates to come. |
